قَالَ رَبِّ اَنّٰى يَكُوۡنُ لِىۡ غُلٰمٌ وَّقَدۡ بَلَغَنِىَ الۡكِبَرُ وَامۡرَاَتِىۡ عَاقِرٌؕ قَالَ كَذٰلِكَ اللّٰهُ يَفۡعَلُ مَا يَشَآءُ
— Transliteration
Qala rabbi anna yakoonu leeghulamun waqad balaghaniya alkibaru wamraatee AAaqirunqala kathalika Allahu yafAAalu mayasha/

(زکریاعلیہ السلام نے) عرض کیا: اے میرے رب! میرے ہاں لڑکا کیسے ہو گا؟ درآنحالیکہ مجھے بڑھاپا پہنچ چکا ہے اور میری بیوی (بھی) بانجھ ہے، فرمایا: اسی طرح اﷲ جو چاہتا ہے کرتا ہے

He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when I have reached old age and my wife is barren?" The angel said, "Such is Allah; He does what He wills."

And his wife approached with a cry [of alarm] and struck her face and said, "[I am] a barren old woman!"
