آپ ایسے لوگوں کو ہرگز (نجات پانے والا) خیال نہ کریں جو اپنی کارستانیوں پر خوش ہو رہے ہیں اور ناکردہ اعمال پر بھی اپنی تعریف کے خواہش مند ہیں، (دوبارہ تاکید کے لئے فرمایا:) پس آپ انہیں ہرگز عذاب سے نجات پانے والا نہ سمجھیں، اور ان کے لئے دردناک عذاب ہے

And never think that those who rejoice in what they have perpetrated and like to be praised for what they did not do - never think them [to be] in safety from the punishment, and for them is a painful punishment.

Falamma nasoo ma thukkiroobihi fatahna AAalayhim abwaba kulli shay-in hattaitha farihoo bima ootoo akhathnahumbaghtatan fa-itha hum mublisoon

So when they forgot that by which they had been reminded, We opened to them the doors of every [good] thing until, when they rejoiced in that which they were given, We seized them suddenly, and they were [then] in despair.

پھر (بھی) اگر وہ رُوگردانی کریں تو ہم نے آپ کو اُن پر (تباہی سے بچانے کا) ذمّہ دار بنا کر نہیں بھیجا۔ آپ پر تو صرف (پیغامِ حق) پہنچا دینے کی ذمّہ داری ہے، اور بیشک جب ہم انسان کو اپنی بارگاہ سے رحمت (کا ذائقہ) چکھاتے ہیں تو وہ اس سے خوش ہو جاتا ہے اور اگر انہیں کوئی مصیبت پہنچتی ہے اُن کے اپنے ہاتھوں سے آگے بھیجے ہوئے اعمالِ (بد) کے باعث، تو بیشک انسان بڑا ناشکر گزار (ثابت ہوتا) ہے

But if they turn away - then We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], over them as a guardian; upon you is only [the duty of] notification. And indeed, when We let man taste mercy from us, he rejoices in it; but if evil afflicts him for what his hands have put forth, then indeed, man is ungrateful.

In order that you not despair over what has eluded you and not exult [in pride] over what He has given you. And Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful -
