O People of the Scripture, why do you argue about Abraham while the Torah and the Gospel were not revealed until after him? Then will you not reason?

Satan only wants to cause between you animosity and hatred through intoxicants and gambling and to avert you from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer. So will you not desist?
وَاَطِيۡعُوۡا اللّٰهَ وَاَطِيۡعُوۡا الرَّسُوۡلَ وَاحۡذَرُوۡاۚ فَاِنۡ تَوَلَّيۡتُمۡ فَاعۡلَمُوۡۤا اَنَّمَا عَلٰى رَسُوۡلِنَا الۡبَلٰغُ الۡمُبِيۡنُ
— Transliteration
WaateeAAoo Allaha waateeAAooarrasoola wahtharoo fa-in tawallaytum faAAlamooannama AAala rasoolina albalaghualmubeen

اور تم اللہ کی اطاعت کرو اور رسول (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کی اطاعت کرو اور (خدا اور رسول صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی مخالفت سے) بچتے رہو، پھر اگر تم نے رُوگردانی کی تو جان لو کہ ہمارے رسول (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) پر صرف (احکام کا) واضح طور پر پہنچا دینا ہی ہے (اور وہ یہ فریضہ ادا فرما چکے ہیں)

And obey Allah and obey the Messenger and beware. And if you turn away - then know that upon Our Messenger is only [the responsibility for] clear notification.

اور اگر وہ لوگ تورات اور انجیل اور جو کچھ (مزید) ان کی طرف ان کے رب کی جانب سے نازل کیا گیا تھا (نافذ اور) قائم کردیتے تو (انہیں مالی وسائل کی اس قدر وسعت عطا ہوجاتی کہ) وہ اپنے اوپر سے (بھی) اور اپنے پاؤں کے نیچے سے (بھی) کھاتے (مگر رزق ختم نہ ہوتا)۔ ان میں سے ایک گروہ میانہ رَو (یعنی اعتدال پسند ہے)، اور ان میں سے اکثر لوگ جو کچھ کررہے ہیں نہایت ہی برا ہے

And if only they upheld [the law of] the Torah, the Gospel, and what has been revealed to them from their Lord, they would have consumed [provision] from above them and from beneath their feet. Among them are a moderate community, but many of them - evil is that which they do.

فرما دیجئے: اے اہلِ کتاب! تم (دین میں سے) کسی شے پر بھی نہیں ہو، یہاں تک کہ تم تورات اور انجیل اور جو کچھ تمہاری طرف تمہارے رب کی جانب سے نازل کیا گیا ہے (نافذ اور) قائم کر دو، اور (اے حبیب!) جو (کتاب) آپ کی طرف آپ کے رب کی جانب سے نازل کی گئی ہے یقیناً ان میں سے اکثر لوگوں کو (حسداً) سرکشی اور کفر میں بڑھا دے گی، سو آپ گروہِ کفار (کی حالت) پر افسوس نہ کیا کریں

Say, "O People of the Scripture, you are [standing] on nothing until you uphold [the law of] the Torah, the Gospel, and what has been revealed to you from your Lord." And that which has been revealed to you from your Lord will surely increase many of them in transgression and disbelief. So do not grieve over the disbelieving people.

فرما دیجئیے: اے اہلِ کتاب! تم اپنے دین میں ناحق حد سے تجاوز نہ کیا کرو اور نہ ان لوگوں کی خواہشات کی پیروی کیا کرو جو (بعثتِ محمدی صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سے) پہلے ہی گمراہ ہو چکے تھے اور بہت سے (اور) لوگوں کو (بھی) گمراہ کرگئے اور (بعثتِ محمدی صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے بعد بھی) سیدھی راہ سے بھٹکے رہے

اِذۡ قَالَ اللّٰهُ يٰعِيۡسَى ابۡنَ مَرۡيَمَ اذۡكُرۡ نِعۡمَتِىۡ عَلَيۡكَ وَعَلٰى وَالِدَتِكَۘ اِذۡ اَيَّدتُّكَ بِرُوۡحِ الۡقُدُسِ تُكَلِّمُ النَّاسَ فِىۡ الۡمَهۡدِ وَكَهۡلاً ۚوَاِذۡ عَلَّمۡتُكَ الۡـكِتٰبَ وَالۡحِكۡمَةَ وَالتَّوۡرٰٮةَ وَالۡاِنۡجِيۡلَۚ وَاِذۡ تَخۡلُقُ مِنَ الطِّيۡنِ كَهَيۡـَٔـةِ الطَّيۡرِ بِاِذۡنِىۡ فَتَنۡفُخُ فِيۡهَا فَتَكُوۡنُ طَيۡرًۢا بِاِذۡنِىۡ وَتُبۡرِئُ الۡاَكۡمَهَ وَالۡاَبۡرَصَ بِاِذۡنِىۡۚ وَاِذۡ تُخۡرِجُ الۡمَوۡتٰى بِاِذۡنِىۡۚ وَاِذۡ كَفَفۡتُ بَنِىۡۤ اِسۡرآءِيۡلَ عَنۡكَ اِذۡ جِئۡتَهُمۡ بِالۡبَيِّنٰتِ فَقَالَ الَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡا مِنۡهُمۡ اِنۡ هٰذَاۤ اِلَّا سِحۡرٌ مُّبِيۡنٌ

Ith qala Allahu yaAAeesa ibna maryama othkur niAAmatee AAalaykawaAAala walidatika ith ayyadtuka biroohialqudusi tukallimu annasa fee almahdi wakahlanwa-ith AAallamtuka alkitaba walhikmatawattawrata wal-injeela wa-ithtakhluqu mina atteeni kahay-ati attayribi-ithnee fatanfukhu feeha fatakoonu tayranbi-ithnee watubri-o al-akmaha wal-abrasabi-ithnee wa-ith tukhriju almawta bi-ithneewa-ith kafaftu banee isra-eela AAanka ithji/tahum bilbayyinati faqala allatheenakafaroo minhum in hatha illa sihrun mubeen

جب اللہ فرمائے گا: اے عیسٰی ابن مریم! تم اپنے اوپر اور اپنی والدہ پر میرا احسان یاد کرو جب میں نے پاک روح (جبرائیل) کے ذریعے تمہیں تقویت بخشی، تم گہوارے میں (بعہدِ طفولیت) اور پختہ عمری میں (بعہدِ تبلیغ و رسالت یکساں انداز سے) لوگوں سے گفتگو کرتے تھے، اور جب میں نے تمہیں کتاب اور حکمت (و دانائی) اور تورات اور انجیل سکھائی، اور جب تم میرے حکم سے مٹی کے گارے سے پرندے کی شکل کی مانند (مورتی) بناتے تھے پھر تم اس میں پھونک مارتے تھے تو وہ (مورتی) میرے حکم سے پرندہ بن جاتی تھی، اور جب تم مادر زاد اندھوں اور کوڑھیوں (یعنی برص زدہ مریضوں) کو میرے حکم سے اچھا کر دیتے تھے، اور جب تم میرے حکم سے مُردوں کو (زندہ کر کے قبر سے) نکال (کھڑا کر) دیتے تھے، اور جب میں نے بنی اسرائیل کو تمہارے (قتل) سے روک دیا تھا جب کہ تم ان کے پاس واضح نشانیاں لے کر آئے تو ان میں سے کافروں نے (یہ) کہہ دیا کہ یہ تو کھلے جادو کے سوا کچھ نہیں

[The Day] when Allah will say, "O Jesus, Son of Mary, remember My favor upon you and upon your mother when I supported you with the Pure Spirit and you spoke to the people in the cradle and in maturity; and [remember] when I taught you writing and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel; and when you designed from clay [what was] like the form of a bird with My permission, then you breathed into it, and it became a bird with My permission; and you healed the blind and the leper with My permission; and when you brought forth the dead with My permission; and when I restrained the Children of Israel from [killing] you when you came to them with clear proofs and those who disbelieved among them said, "This is not but obvious magic."

— Transliteration
Allatheena yattabiAAoona arrasoolaannabiyya al-ommiyya allathee yajidoonahumaktooban AAindahum fee attawrati wal-injeeliya/muruhum bilmaAAroofi wayanhahum AAani almunkariwayuhillu lahumu attayyibati wayuharrimuAAalayhimu alkhaba-itha wayadaAAu AAanhum israhumwal-aghlala allatee kanat AAalayhim fallatheenaamanoo bihi waAAazzaroohu wanasaroohu wattabaAAooannoora allathee onzila maAAahu ola-ikahumu almuflihoon

(یہ وہ لوگ ہیں) جو اس رسول (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کی پیروی کرتے ہیں جو اُمّی (لقب) نبی ہیں (یعنی دنیا میں کسی شخص سے پڑھے بغیر مِن جانبِ اللہ لوگوں کو اخبارِ غیب اورمعاش و معاد کے علوم و معارف بتاتے ہیں) جن (کے اوصاف و کمالات) کو وہ لوگ اپنے پاس تورات اور انجیل میں لکھا ہوا پاتے ہیں، جو انہیں اچھی باتوں کا حکم دیتے ہیں اور بری باتوں سے منع فرماتے ہیں اور ان کے لئے پاکیزہ چیزوں کو حلال کرتے ہیں اور ان پر پلید چیزوں کو حرام کرتے ہیں اور ان سے ان کے بارِگراں اور طوقِ (قیود) جو ان پر (نافرمانیوں کے باعث مسلّط) تھے، ساقط فرماتے (اور انہیں نعمتِ آزادی سے بہرہ یاب کرتے) ہیں۔ پس جو لوگ اس (برگزیدہ رسول صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) پر ایمان لائیں گے اور ان کی تعظیم و توقیر کریں گے اور ان (کے دین) کی مدد و نصرت کریں گے اور اس نورِ (قرآن) کی پیروی کریں گے جو ان کے ساتھ اتارا گیا ہے، وہی لوگ ہی فلاح پانے والے ہیں

Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered prophet, whom they find written in what they have of the Torah and the Gospel, who enjoins upon them what is right and forbids them what is wrong and makes lawful for them the good things and prohibits for them the evil and relieves them of their burden and the shackles which were upon them. So they who have believed in him, honored him, supported him and followed the light which was sent down with him - it is those who will be the successful.

اِنَّ اللّٰهَ اشۡتَرٰى مِنَ الۡمُؤۡمِنِيۡنَ اَنۡفُسَهُمۡ وَاَمۡوَالَهُمۡ بِاَنَّ لَهُمُ الۡجَــنَّةَ ؕ يُقَاتِلُوۡنَ فِىۡ سَبِيۡلِ اللّٰهِ فَيَقۡتُلُوۡنَ وَ يُقۡتَلُوۡنَوَعۡدًا عَلَيۡهِ حَقًّا فِىۡ التَّوۡرٰٮةِ وَالۡاِنۡجِيۡلِ وَالۡقُرۡاٰنِ ؕ وَمَنۡ اَوۡفٰى بِعَهۡدِهٖ مِنَ اللّٰهِ فَاسۡتَـبۡشِرُوۡا بِبَيۡعِكُمُ الَّذِىۡ بَايَعۡتُمۡ بِهٖ ؕ وَذٰلِكَ هُوَ الۡفَوۡزُ الۡعَظِيۡمُ
— Transliteration
Inna Allaha ishtara minaalmu/mineena anfusahum waamwalahum bi-anna lahumualjannata yuqatiloona fee sabeeli Allahifayaqtuloona wayuqtaloona waAAdan AAalayhi haqqan fee attawratiwal-injeeli walqur-ani waman awfabiAAahdihi mina Allahi fastabshiroo bibayAAikumuallathee bayaAAtum bihi wathalika huwaalfawzu alAAatheem

بیشک اﷲ نے اہلِ ایمان سے ان کی جانیں اور ان کے مال، ان کے لئے جنت کے عوض خرید لئے ہیں، (اب) وہ اللہ کی راہ میں قتال کرتے ہیں، سو وہ (حق کی خاطر) قتل کرتے ہیں اور (خود بھی) قتل کئے جاتے ہیں۔ (اﷲ نے) اپنے ذمۂ کرم پر پختہ وعدہ (لیا) ہے، تَورات میں (بھی) انجیل میں (بھی) اور قرآن میں (بھی)، اور کون اپنے وعدہ کو اﷲ سے زیادہ پورا کرنے والا ہے، سو (ایمان والو!) تم اپنے سودے پر خوشیاں مناؤ جس کے عوض تم نے (جان و مال کو) بیچا ہے، اور یہی تو زبردست کامیابی ہے

Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their properties [in exchange] for that they will have Paradise. They fight in the cause of Allah, so they kill and are killed. [It is] a true promise [binding] upon Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur'an. And who is truer to his covenant than Allah? So rejoice in your transaction which you have contracted. And it is that which is the great attainment.

مُّحَمَّدٌ رَّسُوۡلُ اللّٰهِؕ وَالَّذِيۡنَ مَعَهٗۤ اَشِدَّآءُ عَلَى الۡكُفَّارِ رُحَمَآءُ بَيۡنَهُمۡ تَرٰٮهُمۡ رُكَّعًا سُجَّدًا يَّبۡتَغُوۡنَ فَضۡلاً مِّنَ اللّٰهِ وَرِضۡوَانًاسِيۡمَاهُمۡ فِىۡ وُجُوۡهِهِمۡ مِّنۡ اَثَرِ السُّجُوۡدِؕ ذٰلِكَ مَثَلُهُمۡ فِىۡ التَّوۡرٰٮةِ ۛ ۖۚ وَمَثَلُهُمۡ فِىۡ الۡاِنۡجِيۡلِ ۛۚ كَزَرۡعٍ اَخۡرَجَ شَطَاهٗ فَاٰزَرَهٗ فَاسۡتَغۡلَظَ فَاسۡتَوٰى عَلٰى سُوۡقِهٖ يُعۡجِبُ الزُّرَّاعَ لِيَـغِيۡظَ بِهِمُ الۡكُفَّارَ ؕ وَعَدَ اللّٰهُ الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا وَعَمِلُوۡا الصّٰلِحٰتِ مِنۡهُمۡ مَّغۡفِرَةً وَّاَجۡرًا عَظِيۡمًا
— Transliteration

محمد (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) اﷲ کے رسول ہیں، اور جو لوگ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کی معیت اور سنگت میں ہیں (وہ) کافروں پر بہت سخت اور زور آور ہیں آپس میں بہت نرم دل اور شفیق ہیں۔ آپ انہیں کثرت سے رکوع کرتے ہوئے، سجود کرتے ہوئے دیکھتے ہیں وہ (صرف) اﷲ کے فضل اور اس کی رضا کے طلب گار ہیں۔ اُن کی نشانی اُن کے چہروں پر سجدوں کا اثر ہے (جو بصورتِ نور نمایاں ہے)۔ ان کے یہ اوصاف تورات میں (بھی مذکور) ہیں اور ان کے (یہی) اوصاف انجیل میں (بھی مرقوم) ہیں۔ وہ (صحابہ ہمارے محبوبِ مکرّم کی) کھیتی کی طرح ہیں جس نے (سب سے پہلے) اپنی باریک سی کونپل نکالی، پھر اسے طاقتور اور مضبوط کیا، پھر وہ موٹی اور دبیز ہوگئی، پھر اپنے تنے پر سیدھی کھڑی ہوگئی (اور جب سرسبز و شاداب ہو کر لہلہائی تو) کاشتکاروں کو کیا ہی اچھی لگنے لگی (اﷲ نے اپنے حبیب صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے صحابہ رضی اللہ عنھم کو اسی طرح ایمان کے تناور درخت بنایا ہے) تاکہ اِن کے ذریعے وہ (محمد رسول اﷲ صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سے جلنے والے) کافروں کے دل جلائے، اﷲ نے ان لوگوں سے جو ایمان لائے اور نیک اعمال کرتے رہے مغفرت اور اجرِ عظیم کا وعدہ فرمایا ہےo

Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; and those with him are forceful against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating [in prayer], seeking bounty from Allah and [His] pleasure. Their mark is on their faces from the trace of prostration. That is their description in the Torah. And their description in the Gospel is as a plant which produces its offshoots and strengthens them so they grow firm and stand upon their stalks, delighting the sowers - so that Allah may enrage by them the disbelievers. Allah has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds among them forgiveness and a great reward.

ثُمَّ قَفَّيۡنَا عَلٰٓى اٰثَارِهِمۡ بِرُسُلِنَا وَقَفَّيۡنَا بِعِيۡسَى ابۡنِ مَرۡيَمَ وَاٰتَيۡنٰهُ الۡاِنۡجِيۡلَ ۙ وَجَعَلۡنَا فِىۡ قُلُوۡبِ الَّذِيۡنَ اتَّبَعُوۡهُ رَاۡفَةً وَّرَحۡمَةً ؕ وَّرَهۡبَانِيَّةً اۨبۡتَدَعُوۡهَا مَا كَتَبۡنٰهَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ اِلَّا ابۡتِغَآءَ رِضۡوَانِ اللّٰهِ فَمَا رَعَوۡهَا حَقَّ رِعَايَتِهَاۚ فَاٰتَيۡنَا الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا مِنۡهُمۡ اَجۡرَهُمۡۚ وَكَثِيۡرٌ مِّنۡهُمۡ فٰسِقُوۡنَ

Thumma qaffayna AAala atharihimbirusulina waqaffayna biAAeesa ibni maryamawaataynahu al-injeela wajaAAalna fee quloobiallatheena ittabaAAoohu ra/fatan warahmatan warahbaniyyatanibtadaAAooha ma katabnaha AAalayhimilla ibtighaa ridwani Allahifama raAAawha haqqa riAAayatihafaatayna allatheena amanoo minhumajrahum wakatheerun minhum fasiqoon

پھر ہم نے ان رسولوں کے نقوشِ قدم پر (دوسرے) رسولوں کو بھیجا اور ہم نے ان کے پیچھے عیسٰی ابنِ مریم (علیہما السلام) کو بھیجا اور ہم نے انہیں انجیل عطا کی اور ہم نے اُن لوگوں کے دلوں میں جو اُن کی (یعنی عیسٰی علیہ السلام کی صحیح) پیروی کر رہے تھے شفقت اور رحمت پیدا کر دی۔ اور رہبانیت (یعنی عبادتِ الٰہی کے لئے ترکِ دنیا اور لذّتوں سے کنارہ کشی) کی بدعت انہوں نے خود ایجاد کر لی تھی، اسے ہم نے اُن پر فرض نہیں کیا تھا، مگر (انہوں نے رہبانیت کی یہ بدعت) محض اللہ کی رضا حاصل کرنے کے لئے (شروع کی تھی) پھر اس کی عملی نگہداشت کا جو حق تھا وہ اس کی ویسی نگہداشت نہ کرسکے (یعنی اسے اسی جذبہ اور پابندی سے جاری نہ رکھ سکی)، سو ہم نے اُن لوگوں کو جو ان میں سے ایمان لائے (اور بدعتِ رہبانیت کو رضائے الٰہی کے لئے جاری رکھے ہوئے) تھے، اُن کا اجر و ثواب عطا کر دیا اور ان میں سے اکثر لوگ (جو اس کے تارک ہوگئے اور بدل گئے) بہت نافرمان ہیںo

Then We sent following their footsteps Our messengers and followed [them] with Jesus, the son of Mary, and gave him the Gospel. And We placed in the hearts of those who followed him compassion and mercy and monasticism, which they innovated; We did not prescribe it for them except [that they did so] seeking the approval of Allah. But they did not observe it with due observance. So We gave the ones who believed among them their reward, but many of them are defiantly disobedient.
