And [recall] when We saved your forefathers from the people of Pharaoh, who afflicted you with the worst torment, slaughtering your [newborn] sons and keeping your females alive. And in that was a great trial from your Lord.

[Theirs is] like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and those before them. They denied Our signs, so Allah seized them for their sins. And Allah is severe in penalty.

Then We sent after them Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his establishment, but they were unjust toward them. So see how was the end of the corrupters.

Waqala moosa yafirAAawnu innee rasoolun min rabbi alAAalameen

Wajaa assaharatufirAAawna qaloo inna lana laajran in kunnanahnu alghalibeen

And the magicians came to Pharaoh. They said, "Indeed for us is a reward if we are the predominant."

Qala firAAawnu amantum bihiqabla an athana lakum inna hatha lamakrunmakartumoohu fee almadeenati litukhrijoo minha ahlahafasawfa taAAlamoon

تم جان لو گے

فرعون کہنے لگا: (کیا) تم اس پر ایمان لے آئے ہو قبل اس کے کہ میں تمہیں اجازت دیتا؟ بیشک یہ ایک فریب ہے جو تم (سب) نے مل کر (مجھ سے) اس شہر میں کیا ہے تاکہ تم اس (ملک) سے اس کے (قبطی) باشندوں کو نکال کر لے جاؤ، سو تم عنقریب (اس کا انجام) جان لو گے

Said Pharaoh, "You believed in him before I gave you permission. Indeed, this is a conspiracy which you conspired in the city to expel therefrom its people. But you are going to know.

— Transliteration

LaoqatiAAanna aydiyakum waarjulakummin khilafin thumma laosallibannakum ajmaAAeen

I will surely cut off

I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all."

وَقَالَ الۡمَلَاُ مِنۡ قَوۡمِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ اَتَذَرُ مُوۡسٰى وَقَوۡمَهٗ لِيُفۡسِدُوۡا فِى الۡاَرۡضِ وَيَذَرَكَ وَاٰلِهَتَكَ‌ؕ قَالَ سَنُقَتِّلُ اَبۡنَآءَهُمۡ وَنَسۡتَحۡىٖ نِسَآءَهُمۡ‌ۚ وَاِنَّا فَوۡقَهُمۡ قَاهِرُوۡنَ‏ 

— Transliteration

Waqala almalao min qawmi firAAawnaatatharu moosa waqawmahu liyufsidoo fee al-ardiwayatharaka waalihataka qala sanuqattilu abnaahumwanastahyee nisaahum wa-inna fawqahum qahiroon

sanuqattilu

We will kill

عنقریب ہم قتل کردیں گے

ان کے بیٹوں کو

wanastaḥyī

and we will let live

اور ہم زندہ چھوڑ دیں گے

nisāahum

their women

ان کی عورتوں کو

wa-innā

and indeed, we

اور بیشک ہم

fawqahum

over them

ان کے اوپر

qāhirūna

(are) subjugators

غالب ہیں

اور قومِ فرعون کے سرداروں نے (فرعون سے) کہا: کیا تو موسٰی اور اس کی (اِنقلاب پسند) قوم کو چھوڑ دے گا کہ وہ ملک میں فساد پھیلائیں اور (پھر کیا) وہ تجھ کو اور تیرے معبودوں کو چھوڑ دیں گے؟ اس نے کہا: (نہیں) اب ہم ان کے لڑکوں کو قتل کردیں گے (تاکہ ان کی مردانہ افرادی قوت ختم ہوجائے) اور ان کی عورتوں کو زندہ رکھیں گے (تاکہ ان سے زیادتی کی جاسکے)، اور بیشک ہم ان پر غالب ہیں

— English

And the eminent among the people of Pharaoh said," Will you leave Moses and his people to cause corruption in the land and abandon you and your gods?" [Pharaoh] said, "We will kill their sons and keep their women alive; and indeed, we are subjugators over them."

— Transliteration

Walaqad akhathna alafirAAawna bissineena wanaqsin mina aththamaratilaAAallahum yaththakkaroon

We seized

پھر ہم نے اہلِ فرعون کو (قحط کے) چند سالوں اور میووں کے نقصان سے (عذاب کی) گرفت میں لے لیا تاکہ وہ نصیحت حاصل کریں

And We certainly seized the people of Pharaoh with years of famine and a deficiency in fruits that perhaps they would be reminded.

فَاَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمُ الطُّوۡفَانَ وَالۡجَـرَادَ وَالۡقُمَّلَ وَالضَّفَادِعَ وَالدَّمَ اٰيٰتٍ مُّفَصَّلٰتٍ فَاسۡتَكۡبَرُوۡا وَكَانُوۡا قَوۡمًا مُّجۡرِمِيۡنَ‏ 

— Transliteration

Faarsalna AAalayhimu attoofanawaljarada walqummala waddafadiAAawaddama ayatin mufassalatinfastakbaroo wakanoo qawman mujrimeen

So We sent

تو بھیجا ہم نے

the flood

wal-jarāda

and the locusts

but they showed arrogance

پھر ہم نے ان پر طوفان، ٹڈیاں،گھن، مینڈک اور خون (کتنی ہی) جداگانہ نشانیاں (بطورِ عذاب) بھیجیں، پھر (بھی) انہوں نے تکبر و سرکشی اختیار کئے رکھی اور وہ (نہایت) مجرم قوم تھے

So We sent upon them the flood and locusts and lice and frogs and blood as distinct signs, but they were arrogant and were a criminal people.

وَلَـمَّا وَقَعَ عَلَيۡهِمُ الرِّجۡزُ قَالُوۡا يٰمُوۡسَى ادۡعُ لَـنَا رَبَّكَ بِمَا عَهِدَ عِنۡدَكَ‌ۚ لَٮِٕنۡ كَشَفۡتَ عَنَّا الرِّجۡزَ لَـنُؤۡمِنَنَّ لَكَ وَلَـنُرۡسِلَنَّ مَعَكَ بَنِىۡۤ اِسۡرآءِيۡلَ‌ۚ‏ 

— Transliteration

Walamma waqaAAa AAalayhimu arrijzuqaloo ya moosa odAAu lana rabbaka bimaAAahida AAindaka la-in kashafta AAanna arrijzalanu/minanna laka walanursilanna maAAaka banee isra-eel

and surely, we will send

اور البتہ ہم ضرور بھیجیں گے

(of) Israel

اسرائیل کو

Urdu —

اور جب ان پر (کوئی) عذاب واقع ہوتا تو کہتے: اے موسٰی! آپ ہمارے لئے اپنے رب سے دعا کریں اس عہد کے وسیلہ سے جو (اس کا) آپ کے پاس ہے، اگر آپ ہم سے اس عذاب کو ٹال دیں تو ہم ضرور آپ پر ایمان لے آئیں گے اور بنی اسرائیل کو (بھی آزاد کر کے) آپ کے ساتھ بھیج دیں گے

And when the punishment descended upon them, they said, "O Moses, invoke for us your Lord by what He has promised you. If you [can] remove the punishment from us, we will surely believe you, and we will send with you the Children of Israel."

وَاَوۡرَثۡنَا الۡـقَوۡمَ الَّذِيۡنَ كَانُوۡا يُسۡتَضۡعَفُوۡنَ مَشَارِقَ الۡاَرۡضِ وَمَغَارِبَهَا الَّتِىۡ بٰرَكۡنَا فِيۡهَا‌ؕ وَتَمَّتۡ كَلِمَتُ رَبِّكَ الۡحُسۡنَىٰ عَلٰى بَنِىۡۤ اِسۡرَاۤءِيۡلَ ۙ بِمَا صَبَرُوۡا‌ؕ وَدَمَّرۡنَا مَا كَانَ يَصۡنَعُ فِرۡعَوۡنُ وَقَوۡمُهٗ وَمَا كَانُوۡا يَعۡرِشُوۡنَ‏ 

— Transliteration

Waawrathna alqawma allatheenakanoo yustadAAafoona mashariqa al-ardiwamagharibaha allatee barakna feehawatammat kalimatu rabbika alhusna AAalabanee isra-eela bima sabaroo wadammarnama kana yasnaAAu firAAawnu waqawmuhu wamakanoo yaAArishoon

انہوں نے صبر کیا

And We destroyed

اور برباد کردیا ہم نے

کیا کرتا۔ بناتا

Firaun

فرعون

waqawmuhu

and his people

اور اس کی قوم

wamā

and what

اور جو کچھ

they used to

کہ تھے وہ

چھتوں پر چڑھاتے

Urdu —

اور ہم نے اس قوم (بنی اسرائیل) کو جو کمزور اور استحصال زدہ تھی اس سرزمین کے مشرق و مغرب (مصر اور شام) کا وارث بنا دیا جس میں ہم نے برکت رکھی تھی، اور (یوں) بنی اسرائیل کے حق میں آپ کے رب کا نیک وعدہ پورا ہوگیا اس وجہ سے کہ انہوں نے (فرعونی مظالم پر) صبر کیا تھا، اور ہم نے ان (عالیشان محلات) کو تباہ و برباد کردیا جو فرعون اور اس کی قوم نے بنا رکھے تھے اور ان چنائیوں (اور باغات) کو بھی جنہیں وہ بلندیوں پر چڑھاتے تھے

And We caused the people who had been oppressed to inherit the eastern regions of the land and the western ones, which We had blessed. And the good word of your Lord was fulfilled for the Children of Israel because of what they had patiently endured. And We destroyed [all] that Pharaoh and his people were producing and what they had been building.

Wa-ith anjaynakum min alifirAAawna yasoomoonakum soo-a alAAathabi yuqattiloona abnaakumwayastahyoona nisaakum wafee thalikum balaonmin rabbikum AAatheem

اور (وہ وقت) یاد کرو جب ہم نے تم کو اہلِ فرعون سے نجات بخشی جو تمہیں بہت ہی سخت عذاب دیتے تھے، وہ تمہارے لڑکوں کو قتل کردیتے اور تمہاری لڑکیوں کو زندہ چھوڑ دیتے تھے، اور اس میں تمہارے رب کی طرف سے زبردست آزمائش تھی

— English

And [recall, O Children of Israel], when We saved you from the people of Pharaoh, [who were] afflicting you with the worst torment - killing your sons and keeping your women alive. And in that was a great trial from your Lord.

(ان کافروں کا حال بھی) قومِ فرعون اور ان سے پہلے کے لوگوں کے حال کی مانند ہے۔ انہوں نے (بھی) اللہ کی آیات کا انکار کیا تھا، سو اللہ نے انہیں ان کے گناہوں کے باعث (عذاب میں) پکڑ لیا۔ بیشک اللہ قوت والا سخت عذاب دینے والا ہے

— English

[Theirs is] like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and of those before them. They disbelieved in the signs of Allah, so Allah seized them for their sins. Indeed, Allah is Powerful and severe in penalty.

پھر ہم نے ان کے بعد موسٰی اور ہارون (علیھما السلام) کو فرعون اور اس کے سردارانِ قوم کی طرف نشانیوں کے ساتھ بھیجا تو انہوں نے تکبر کیا اور وہ مجرم لوگ تھے

Then We sent after them Moses and Aaron to Pharaoh and his establishment with Our signs, but they behaved arrogantly and were a criminal people

the ones who commit excesses

حد سے بڑھ جانے والوں

پس موسٰی (علیہ السلام) پر ان کی قوم کے چند جوانوں کے سوا (کوئی) ایمان نہ لایا، فرعون اور اپنے (قومی) سرداروں (وڈیروں) سے ڈرتے ہوئے کہ کہیں وہ انہیں (کسی) مصیبت میں مبتلا نہ کر دیں، اور بیشک فرعون سرزمینِ (مصر) میں بڑا جابر و سرکش تھا، اور وہ یقیناً (ظلم میں) حد سے بڑھ جانے والوں میں سے تھا

— English

But no one believed Moses, except [some] youths among his people, for fear of Pharaoh and his establishment that they would persecute them. And indeed, Pharaoh was haughty within the land, and indeed, he was of the transgressors

And Moses said, "O my people, if you have believed in Allah, then rely upon Him, if you should be Muslims."

So they said, "Upon Allah do we rely. Our Lord, make us not [objects of] trial for the wrongdoing people

— Transliteration

Waqala moosa rabbanainnaka atayta firAAawna wamalaahu zeenatan waamwalanfee alhayati addunya rabbanaliyudilloo AAan sabeelika rabbana itmis AAalaamwalihim washdud AAala quloobihim falayu/minoo hatta yarawoo alAAathaba al-aleem

Urdu —

اور موسٰی (علیہ السلام) نے کہا: اے ہمارے رب! بیشک تو نے فرعون اور اس کے سرداروں کو دنیوی زندگی میں اسبابِ زینت اور مال و دولت (کی کثرت) دے رکھی ہے، اے ہمارے رب! (کیا تو نے انہیں یہ سب کچھ اس لئے دیا ہے) تاکہ وہ (لوگوں کو کبھی لالچ اور کبھی خوف دلا کر) تیری راہ سے بہکا دیں۔ اے ہمارے رب! تو ان کی دولتوں کو برباد کردے اور ان کے دلوں کو (اتنا) سخت کردے کہ وہ پھر بھی ایمان نہ لائیں حتٰی کہ وہ دردناک عذاب دیکھ لیں

— English

And Moses said, "Our Lord, indeed You have given Pharaoh and his establishment splendor and wealth in the worldly life, our Lord, that they may lead [men] astray from Your way. Our Lord, obliterate their wealth and harden their hearts so that they will not believe until they see the painful punishment."

وَجٰوَزۡنَا بِبَنِىۡۤ اِسۡرآءِيۡلَ الۡبَحۡرَ فَاَتۡبـَعَهُمۡ فِرۡعَوۡنُ وَجُنُوۡدُهٗ بَغۡيًا وَّعَدۡوًا‌ؕ حَتّٰۤى اِذَاۤ اَدۡرَكَهُ الۡغَرَقُۙ قَالَ اٰمَنۡتُ اَنَّهٗ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا الَّذِىۡۤ اٰمَنَتۡ بِهٖ بَنُوۡۤا اِسۡرآءِيۡلَ وَاَنَا مِنَ الۡمُسۡلِمِيۡنَ‏ 

— Transliteration

Wajawazna bibanee isra-eelaalbahra faatbaAAahum firAAawnu wajunooduhu baghyanwaAAadwan hatta itha adrakahu algharaqu qalaamantu annahu la ilaha illa allatheeamanat bihi banoo isra-eela waana minaalmuslimeen

اور ہم بنی اسرائیل کو دریا کے پار لے گئے پس فرعون اوراس کے لشکر نے سرکشی اور ظلم و تعدّی سے ان کا تعاقب کیا، یہاں تک کہ جب اسے (یعنی فرعون کو) ڈوبنے نے آلیا وہ کہنے لگا: میں اس پر ایمان لے آیا کہ کوئی معبود نہیں سوائے اس (معبود) کے جس پر بنی اسرائیل ایمان لائے ہیں اور میں (اب) مسلمانوں میں سے ہوں

And We took the Children of Israel across the sea, and Pharaoh and his soldiers pursued them in tyranny and enmity until, when drowning overtook him, he said, "I believe that there is no deity except that in whom the Children of Israel believe, and I am of the Muslims."

Urdu —

اور (وہ وقت یاد کیجئے) جب موسٰی (علیہ السلام) نے اپنی قوم سے کہا: تم اپنے اوپر اللہ کے (اس) انعام کو یاد کرو جب اس نے تمہیں آلِ فرعون سے نجات دی جو تمہیں سخت عذاب پہنچاتے تھے اور تمہارے لڑکوں کو ذبح کر ڈالتے تھے اور تمہاری عورتوں کو زندہ چھوڑ دیتے تھے، اور اس میں تمہارے رب کی جانب سے بڑی بھاری آزمائش تھی

And [recall, O Children of Israel], when Moses said to His people, "Remember the favor of Allah upon you when He saved you from the people of Pharaoh, who were afflicting you with the worst torment and were slaughtering your [newborn] sons and keeping your females alive. And in that was a great trial from your Lord.

(you are) bewitched

Urdu —

اور بیشک ہم نے موسٰی (علیہ السلام) کو نو روشن نشانیاں دیں تو آپ بنی اسرائیل سے پوچھیئے جب (موسٰی علیہ السلام) ان کے پاس آئے تو فرعون نے ان سے کہا: میں تو یہی خیال کرتا ہوں کہ اے موسٰی! تم سحر زدہ ہو (تمہیں جادو کر دیا گیا ہے)

And We had certainly given Moses nine evident signs, so ask the Children of Israel [about] when he came to them and Pharaoh said to him, "Indeed I think, O Moses, that you are affected by magic."

So he intended to drive them from the land, but We drowned him and those with him all together.

And We certainly showed Pharaoh Our signs - all of them - but he denied and refused.

[Pharaoh] said, "If you take a god other than me, I will surely place you among those imprisoned."

So they threw their ropes and their staffs and said, "By the might of Pharaoh, indeed it is we who are predominant."

— Transliteration

Qala amantum lahu qabla an athanalakum innahu lakabeerukumu allathee AAallamakumu assihrafalasawfa taAAlamoona laoqattiAAanna aydiyakum waarjulakummin khilafin walaosallibannakum ajmaAAeen

I will surely cut off

البتہ میں ضرور کاٹ دوں گا

تمہارے ہاتھوں کو

wa-arjulakum

and your feet

اور تمہارے پاؤں کو

سے

khilāfin

opposite sides

خلاف سمت (سے)

wala-uṣallibannakum

and I will surely crucify you

اور البتہ میں ضرور رسولی پہ چڑھاؤں گا تم کو

ajmaʿīna

all

سب کے سب کو

Urdu —

(فرعون نے) کہا: تم اس پر ایمان لے آئے ہو قبل اس کے کہ میں تمہیں اجازت دیتا، بیشک یہ (موسٰی علیہ السلام) ہی تمہارا بڑا (استاد) ہے جس نے تمہیں جادو سکھایا ہے، تم جلد ہی (اپنا انجام) معلوم کر لو گے، میں ضرور ہی تمہارے ہاتھ اور تمہارے پاؤں الٹی طرف سے کاٹ ڈالوں گا اور تم سب کو یقیناً سولی پر چڑھا دوں گا

— English

[Pharaoh] said, "You believed Moses before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic, but you are going to know. I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will surely crucify you all."

اور تم اپنا ہاتھ اپنے گریبان کے اندر ڈالو وہ بغیر کسی عیب کے سفید چمک دار (ہو کر) نکلے گا، (یہ دونوں اللہ کی) نو نشانیوں میں (سے) ہیں (انہیں لے کر) فرعون اور اس کی قوم کے پاس جاؤ۔ بیشک وہ نافرمان قوم ہیں

And put your hand into the opening of your garment [at the breast]; it will come out white without disease. [These are] among the nine signs [you will take] to Pharaoh and his people. Indeed, they have been a people defiantly disobedient."

Inna firAAawna AAala fee al-ardiwajaAAala ahlaha shiyaAAan yastadAAifu ta-ifatanminhum yuthabbihu abnaahum wayastahyeenisaahum innahu kana mina almufsideen

بیشک فرعون زمین میں سرکش و متکبّر (یعنی آمرِ مطلق) ہوگیا تھا اور اس نے اپنے (ملک کے) باشندوں کو (مختلف) فرقوں (اور گروہوں) میں بانٹ دیا تھا اس نے ان میں سے ایک گروہ (یعنی بنی اسرائیل کے عوام) کو کمزور کردیا تھا کہ ان کے لڑکوں کو (ان کے مستقبل کی طاقت کچلنے کے لئے) ذبح کر ڈالتا اور ان کی عورتوں کو زندہ چھوڑ دیتا (تاکہ مَردوں کے بغیر ان کی تعداد بڑھے اور ان میں اخلاقی بے راہ روی کا اضافہ ہو)، بیشک وہ فساد انگیز لوگوں میں سے تھا

Indeed, Pharaoh exalted himself in the land and made its people into factions, oppressing a sector among them, slaughtering their [newborn] sons and keeping their females alive. Indeed, he was of the corrupters.

Faltaqatahu alufirAAawna liyakoona lahum AAaduwwan wahazanan innafirAAawna wahamana wajunoodahuma kanookhati-een

And the family of Pharaoh picked him up [out of the river] so that he would become to them an enemy and a [cause of] grief. Indeed, Pharaoh and Haman and their soldiers were deliberate sinners.

— Transliteration

Waqalati imraatu firAAawna qurratuAAaynin lee walaka la taqtuloohu AAasa an yanfaAAanaaw nattakhithahu waladan wahum la yashAAuroon

اور فرعون کی بیوی نے (موسٰی علیہ السلام کو دیکھ کر) کہا کہ (یہ بچہ) میری اور تیری آنکھ کے لئے ٹھنڈک ہے۔ اسے قتل نہ کرو، شاید یہ ہمیں فائدہ پہنچائے یا ہم اس کو بیٹا بنالیں اور وہ (اس تجویز کے انجام سے) بے خبر تھے

— English

And the wife of Pharaoh said, "[He will be] a comfort of the eye for me and for you. Do not kill him; perhaps he may benefit us, or we may adopt him as a son." And they perceived not.

وَحَرَّمۡنَا عَلَيۡهِ الۡمَرَاضِعَ مِنۡ قَبۡلُ فَقَالَتۡ هَلۡ اَدُلُّـكُمۡ عَلٰٓى اَهۡلِ بَيۡتٍ يَّكۡفُلُوۡنَهٗ لَـكُمۡ وَهُمۡ لَهٗ نٰصِحُوۡنَ‏ 

— Transliteration

Waharramna AAalayhi almaradiAAamin qablu faqalat hal adullukum AAala ahli baytinyakfuloonahu lakum wahum lahu nasihoon

And We had forbidden

اور ہم نے پہلے ہی سے موسٰی (علیہ السلام) پر دائیوں کا دودھ حرام کر دیا تھا سو (موسٰی علیہ السلام کی بہن نے) کہا: کیا میں تمہیں ایسے گھر والوں کی نشاندہی کروں جو تمہارے لئے اس (بچے) کی پرورش کر دیں اور وہ اس کے خیر خواہ (بھی) ہوں

— English

And We had prevented from him [all] wet nurses before, so she said, "Shall I direct you to a household that will be responsible for him for you while they are to him [for his upbringing] sincere?"

فَرَدَدۡنٰهُ اِلٰٓى اُمِّهٖ كَىۡ تَقَرَّ عَيۡنُهَا وَلَا تَحۡزَنَ وَلِتَعۡلَمَ اَنَّ وَعۡدَ اللّٰهِ حَقٌّ وَّلٰـكِنَّ اَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا يَعۡلَمُوۡنَ‏ 

— Transliteration

Faradadnahu ila ommihi kaytaqarra AAaynuha wala tahzana walitaAAlamaanna waAAda Allahi haqqun walakinnaaktharahum la yaAAlamoon

So We restored him

تو لوٹا دیا ہم نے اس کو

most of them

ان میں سے اکثر

جانتے ہیں

Urdu —

پس ہم نے موسٰی (علیہ السلام) کو (یوں) ان کی والدہ کے پاس لوٹا دیا تاکہ ان کی آنکھ ٹھنڈی رہے اور وہ رنجیدہ نہ ہوں اور تاکہ وہ (یقین سے) جان لیں کہ اللہ کا وعدہ سچا ہے لیکن اکثر لوگ نہیں جانتے

— English

So We restored him to his mother that she might be content and not grieve and that she would know that the promise of Allah is true. But most of the people do not know.

And when he directed himself toward Madyan, he said, "Perhaps my Lord will guide me to the sound way."

اور جب وہ مَدْيَنَْ کے پانی (کے کنویں) پر پہنچے تو انہوں نے اس پر لوگوں کا ایک ہجوم پایا جو (اپنے جانوروں کو) پانی پلا رہے تھے اور ان سے الگ ایک جانب دو عورتیں دیکھیں جو (اپنی بکریوں کو) روکے ہوئے تھیں (موسٰی علیہ السلام نے) فرمایا: تم دونوں اس حال میں کیوں (کھڑی) ہو؟ دونوں بولیں کہ ہم (اپنی بکریوں کو) پانی نہیں پلا سکتیں یہاں تک کہ چرواہے (اپنے مویشیوں کو) واپس لے جائیں، اور ہمارے والد عمر رسیدہ بزرگ ہیں

And when he came to the well of Madyan, he found there a crowd of people watering [their flocks], and he found aside from them two women driving back [their flocks]. He said, "What is your circumstance?" They said, "We do not water until the shepherds dispatch [their flocks]; and our father is an old man."

اور اس کے سرداروں کی طرف

Indeed, they

بیشک وہ

تھے وہ/ ہیں وہ

qawman

a people

لوگ

fāsiqīna

defiantly disobedient

فاسق/نافرمان

Urdu —

اپنا ہاتھ اپنے گریبان میں ڈالو وہ بغیر کسی عیب کے سفید چمک دار ہوکر نکلے گا اور خوف (دور کرنے کی غرض) سے اپنا بازو اپنے (سینے کی) طرف سکیڑ لو، پس تمہارے رب کی جانب سے یہ دو دلیلیں فرعون اور اس کے درباریوں کی طرف (بھیجنے اور مشاہدہ کرانے کے لئے) ہیں، بیشک وہ نافرمان لوگ ہیں

— English

Insert your hand into the opening of your garment; it will come out white, without disease. And draw in your arm close to you [as prevention] from fear, for those are two proofs from your Lord to Pharaoh and his establishment. Indeed, they have been a people defiantly disobedient."

(موسٰی علیہ السلام نے) عرض کیا: اے پروردگار! میں نے ان میں سے ایک شخص کو قتل کر ڈالا تھا سو میں ڈرتا ہوں کہ وہ مجھے قتل کرڈالیں گے

He said, "My Lord, indeed, I killed from among them someone, and I fear they will kill me.

— Transliteration

Waqala firAAawnu ya ayyuhaalmalao ma AAalimtu lakum min ilahin ghayreefaawqid lee ya hamanu AAala atteenifajAAal lee sarhan laAAallee attaliAAuila ilahi moosa wa-innee laathunnuhumina alkathibeen

And indeed, I

اور بیشک میں

la-aẓunnuhu

[I] think that he

البتہ سمجھتا ہوں اس کو

the liars

جھوٹوں میں (سے)

Urdu —

اور فرعون نے کہا: اے درباریو! میں تمہارے لئے اپنے سوا کوئی دوسرا معبود نہیں جانتا۔ اے ہامان! میرے لئے گارے کو آگ لگا (کر کچھ اینٹیں پکا) دے، پھر میرے لئے (ان سے) ایک اونچی عمارت تیار کر، شاید میں (اس پر چڑھ کر) موسٰی کے خدا تک رسائی پا سکوں، اور میں تو اس کو جھوٹ بولنے والوں میں گمان کرتا ہوں

And Pharaoh said, "O eminent ones, I have not known you to have a god other than me. Then ignite for me, O Haman, [a fire] upon the clay and make for me a tower that I may look at the God of Moses. And indeed, I do think he is among the liars."

And We caused to overtake them in this world a curse, and on the Day of Resurrection they will be of the despised.

and a guidance

اور ہدایت

اور رحمت تھی

that they may

شاید کہ وہ

yatadhakkarūna

remember

نصیحت پکڑیں

Urdu —

اور بیشک ہم نے اس (صورتِ حال) کے بعد کہ ہم پہلی (نافرمان) قوموں کو ہلاک کر چکے تھے موسٰی (علیہ السلام) کو کتاب عطا کی جو لوگوں کے لئے (خزانۂ) بصیرت اور ہدایت و رحمت تھی، تاکہ وہ نصیحت قبول کریں

— English

And We gave Moses the Scripture, after We had destroyed the former generations, as enlightenment for the people and guidance and mercy that they might be reminded.

Waqaroona wafirAAawna wahamanawalaqad jaahum moosa bilbayyinati fastakbaroofee al-ardi wama kanoo sabiqeen

اور (ہم نے) قارون اور فرعون اور ہامان کو (بھی ہلاک کیا) اور بیشک موسٰی (علیہ السلام) ان کے پاس واضح نشانیاں لے کر آئے تھے تو انہوں نے ملک میں غرور و سرکشی کی اور وہ (ہماری گرفت سے) آگے بڑھ جانے والے نہ تھے

And [We destroyed] Qarun and Pharaoh and Haman. And Moses had already come to them with clear evidences, and they were arrogant in the land, but they were not outrunners [of Our punishment].

اور فرعون بولا: مجھے چھوڑ دو میں موسٰی کو قتل کر دوں اور اسے چاہیے کہ اپنے رب کو بلا لے۔ مجھے خوف ہے کہ وہ تمہارا دین بدل دے گا یا ملک (مصر) میں فساد پھیلا دے گا

And Pharaoh said, "Let me kill Moses and let him call upon his Lord. Indeed, I fear that he will change your religion or that he will cause corruption in the land."

وَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مُّؤۡمِنٌ ‌ۖ مِّنۡ اٰلِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ يَكۡتُمُ اِيۡمَانَهٗۤ اَتَقۡتُلُوۡنَ رَجُلاً اَنۡ يَّقُوۡلَ رَبِّىَ اللّٰهُ وَقَدۡ جَآءَكُمۡ بِالۡبَيِّنٰتِ مِنۡ رَّبِّكُمۡؕ وَاِنۡ يَّكُ كَاذِبًا فَعَلَيۡهِ كَذِبُهٗؕ وَاِنۡ يَّكُ صَادِقًا يُّصِبۡكُمۡ بَعۡضُ الَّذِىۡ يَعِدُكُمۡۚ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يَهۡدِىۡ مَنۡ هُوَ مُسۡرِفٌ كَذَّابٌ‏ 

— Transliteration

Waqala rajulun mu/minun min alifirAAawna yaktumu eemanahu ataqtuloona rajulan an yaqoolarabbiyya Allahu waqad jaakum bilbayyinatimin rabbikum wa-in yaku kathiban faAAalayhi kathibuhuwa-in yaku sadiqan yusibkum baAAdu allatheeyaAAidukum inna Allaha la yahdee man huwa musrifunkaththab

clear proofs

wa-in

And if

اور اگر

yaku

he is

ہے وہ

kādhiban

a liar

جھوٹا

تو اس پر ہے

truthful

(there) will strike you

Indeed,

(is) a transgressor

حد سے گزرنے والا

جھوٹا۔ جھٹلانے والا

Urdu —

اور ملّتِ فرعون میں سے ایک مردِ مومن نے کہا جو اپنا ایمان چھپائے ہوئے تھا: کیا تم ایک شخص کو قتل کرتے ہو (صرف) اس لئے کہ وہ کہتا ہے: میرا رب اللہ ہے، اور وہ تمہارے پاس تمہارے رب کی طرف سے واضح نشانیاں لے کر آیا ہے، اور اگر (بالفرض) وہ جھوٹا ہے تو اس کے جھوٹ کا بوجھ اسی پر ہوگا اور اگر وہ سچا ہے تو جس قدر عذاب کا وہ تم سے وعدہ کر رہا ہے تمہیں پہنچ کر رہے گا، بے شک اﷲ اسے ہدایت نہیں دیتا جو حد سے گزرنے والا سراسر جھوٹا ہو

— English

And a believing man from the family of Pharaoh who concealed his faith said, "Do you kill a man [merely] because he says, 'My Lord is Allah' while he has brought you clear proofs from your Lord? And if he should be lying, then upon him is [the consequence of] his lie; but if he should be truthful, there will strike you some of what he promises you. Indeed, Allah does not guide one who is a transgressor and a liar.

— Transliteration

Ya qawmi lakumu almulku alyawma thahireenafee al-ardi faman yansuruna min ba/si Allahiin jaana qala firAAawnu ma oreekumilla ma ara wama ahdeekum illasabeela arrashad

صلاح کا۔ بھلائی کا

Urdu —

اے میری قوم! آج کے دن تمہاری حکومت ہے (تم ہی) سرزمینِ (مصر) میں اقتدار پر ہو، پھر کون ہمیں اللہ کے عذاب سے بچا سکتا ہے اگر وہ (عذاب) ہمارے پاس آجائے۔ فرعون نے کہا: میں تمہیں فقط وہی بات سمجھاتا ہوں جسے میں خود (صحیح) سمجھتا ہوں اور میں تمہیں بھلائی کی راہ کے سوا (اور کوئی راستہ) نہیں دکھاتا

O my people, sovereignty is yours today, [your being] dominant in the land. But who would protect us from the punishment of Allah if it came to us?" Pharaoh said, "I do not show you except what I see, and I do not guide you except to the way of right conduct."

The Day you will turn your backs fleeing; there is not for you from Allah any protector. And whoever Allah leaves astray - there is not for him any guide.

اور (اے اہلِ مصر!) بے شک تمہارے پاس اس سے پہلے یوسف (علیہ السلام) واضح نشانیوں کے ساتھ آچکے اور تم ہمیشہ ان (نشانیوں) کے بارے میں شک میں (پڑے) رہے جو وہ تمہارے پاس لائے تھے، یہاں تک کہ جب وہ وفات پا گئے تو تم کہنے لگے کہ اب اللہ ان کے بعد ہرگز کسی رسول کو نہیں بھیجے گا۔ اسی طرح اللہ اس شخص کو گمراہ ٹھہرا دیتا ہے جو حد سے گزرنے والا شک کرنے والا ہو

And Joseph had already come to you before with clear proofs, but you remained in doubt of that which he brought to you, until when he died, you said, 'Never will Allah send a messenger after him.' Thus does Allah leave astray he who is a transgressor and skeptic."

— Transliteration

Asbaba assamawatifaattaliAAa ila ilahi moosa wa-inneelaathunnuhu kathiban wakathalikazuyyina lifirAAawna soo-o AAamalihi wasudda AAani assabeeliwama kaydu firAAawna illa fee tabab

(یعنی) آسمانوں کے راستوں پر، پھر میں موسٰی کے خدا کو جھانک کر دیکھ سکوں اور میں تو اسے جھوٹا ہی سمجھتا ہوں، اور اس طرح فرعون کے لئے اس کی بد عملی خوش نما کر دی گئی اور وہ (اللہ کی) راہ سے روک دیا گیا، اور فرعون کی پُرفریب تدبیر محض ہلاکت ہی میں تھی

The ways into the heavens - so that I may look at the deity of Moses; but indeed, I think he is a liar." And thus was made attractive to Pharaoh the evil of his deed, and he was averted from the [right] way. And the plan of Pharaoh was not except in ruin.

La jarama annama tadAAoonaneeilayhi laysa lahu daAAwatun fee addunya walafee al-akhirati waanna maraddana ila Allahiwaanna almusrifeena hum as-habu annar

سچ تو یہ ہے کہ تم مجھے جس چیز کی طرف بلا رہے ہو وہ نہ تو دنیا میں پکارے جانے کے قابل ہے اور نہ (ہی) آخرت میں اور بے شک ہمارا واپس لوٹنا اللہ ہی کی طرف ہے اور یقیناً حد سے گزرنے والے ہی دوزخی ہیں

Assuredly, that to which you invite me has no [response to a] supplication in this world or in the Hereafter; and indeed, our return is to Allah, and indeed, the transgressors will be companions of the Fire.

Fasatathkuroona ma aqoolulakum waofawwidu amree ila Allahi inna Allahabaseerun bilAAibad

بندوں کو

Urdu —

سو تم عنقریب (وہ باتیں) یاد کرو گے جو میں تم سے کہہ رہا ہوں، اور میں اپنا معاملہ اللہ کے سپرد کرتا ہوں، بے شک اللہ بندوں کو دیکھنے والا ہے

And you will remember what I [now] say to you, and I entrust my affair to Allah. Indeed, Allah is Seeing of [His] servants."

So Allah protected him from the evils they plotted, and the people of Pharaoh were enveloped by the worst of punishment -

Annaru yuAAradoonaAAalayha ghuduwwan waAAashiyyan wayawma taqoomu assaAAatuadkhiloo ala firAAawna ashadda alAAathab

آتشِ دوزخ کے سامنے یہ لوگ صبح و شام پیش کئے جاتے ہیں اور جس دن قیامت بپا ہوگی (تو حکم ہوگا:) آلِ فرعون کو سخت ترین عذاب میں داخل کر دو

The Fire, they are exposed to it morning and evening. And the Day the Hour appears [it will be said], "Make the people of Pharaoh enter the severest punishment."

And certainly did We send Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his establishment, and he said, "Indeed, I am the messenger of the Lord of the worlds."

And Pharaoh called out among his people; he said, "O my people, does not the kingdom of Egypt belong to me, and these rivers flowing beneath me; then do you not see?

And those they invoke besides Him do not possess [power of] intercession; but only those who testify to the truth [can benefit], and they know.

بے شک ہم نے تمہاری طرف ایک رسول (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) بھیجا ہے جو تم پر (اَحوال کا مشاہدہ فرما کر) گواہی دینے والا ہے، جیسا کہ ہم نے فرعون کی طرف ایک رسول کو بھیجا تھاo

— English

Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger.

پس فرعون نے اس رسول (علیہ السلام) کی نافرمانی کی، سو ہم نے اس کو ہلاکت انگیز گرفت میں پکڑ لیاo

— English

But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure.

So Allah seized him in exemplary punishment for the last and the first [transgression].

And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor.
