And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate before Adam"; so they prostrated, except for Iblees. He refused and was arrogant and became of the disbelievers.

اور (یاد کرو) جب ہم نے فرمایا: اس شہر میں داخل ہو جاؤ اور اس میں جہاں سے چاہو خوب جی بھر کے کھاؤ اور (یہ کہ شہر کے) دروازے میں سجدہ کرتے ہوئے داخل ہونا اور یہ کہتے جانا: (اے ہمارے رب! ہم سب خطاؤں کی) بخشش چاہتے ہیں، (تو) ہم تمہاری (گزشتہ) خطائیں معاف فرما دیں گے، اور (علاوہ اس کے) نیکوکاروں کو مزید (لطف و کرم سے) نوازیں گے

And [recall] when We said, "Enter this city and eat from it wherever you will in [ease and] abundance, and enter the gate bowing humbly and say, 'Relieve us of our burdens.' We will [then] forgive your sins for you, and We will increase the doers of good [in goodness and reward]."

اور (یاد کرو) جب ہم نے اس گھر (خانہ کعبہ) کو لوگوں کے لئے رجوع (اور اجتماع) کا مرکز اور جائے امان بنا دیا، اور (حکم دیا کہ) ابراہیم (علیہ السلام) کے کھڑے ہونے کی جگہ کو مقامِ نماز بنا لو، اور ہم نے ابراہیم اور اسماعیل (علیھما السلام) کو تاکید فرمائی کہ میرے گھر کو طواف کرنے والوں اور اعتکاف کرنے والوں اور رکوع و سجود کرنے والوں کے لئے پاک (صاف) کر دو

And [mention] when We made the House a place of return for the people and [a place of] security. And take, [O believers], from the standing place of Abraham a place of prayer. And We charged Abraham and Ishmael, [saying], "Purify My House for those who perform Tawaf and those who are staying [there] for worship and those who bow and prostrate [in prayer]."

They are not [all] the same; among the People of the Scripture is a community standing [in obedience], reciting the verses of Allah during periods of the night and prostrating [in prayer].

— Transliteration

Wa-itha kunta feehim faaqamta lahumuassalata faltaqum ta-ifatun minhummaAAaka walya/khuthoo aslihatahum fa-ithasajadoo falyakoonoo min wara-ikum walta/ti ta-ifatunokhra lam yusalloo falyusalloo maAAakawalya/khuthoo hithrahum waaslihatahumwadda allatheena kafaroo law taghfuloona AAan aslihatikumwaamtiAAatikum fayameeloona AAalaykum maylatan wahidatanwala junaha AAalaykum in kana bikum athanmin matarin aw kuntum marda an tadaAAoo aslihatakumwakhuthoo hithrakum inna AllahaaAAadda lilkafireena AAathaban muheena

اور (اے محبوب!) جب آپ ان (مجاہدوں) میں (تشریف فرما) ہوں تو ان کے لئے نماز (کی جماعت) قائم کریں پس ان میں سے ایک جماعت کو (پہلے) آپ کے ساتھ (اقتداءً) کھڑا ہونا چاہئے اور انہیں اپنے ہتھیار بھی لئے رہنا چاہئیں، پھر جب وہ سجدہ کر چکیں تو (ہٹ کر) تم لوگوں کے پیچھے ہو جائیں اور (اب) دوسری جماعت کو جنہوں نے (ابھی) نماز نہیں پڑھی آجانا چاہیے پھر وہ آپ کے ساتھ (مقتدی بن کر) نماز پڑھیں اور چاہئے کہ وہ (بھی بدستور) اپنے اسبابِ حفاظت اور اپنے ہتھیار لئے رہیں، کافر چاہتے ہیں کہ کہیں تم اپنے ہتھیاروں اور اپنے اسباب سے غافل ہو جاؤ تو وہ تم پر دفعۃً حملہ کر دیں، اور تم پر کچھ مضائقہ نہیں کہ اگر تمہیں بارش کی وجہ سے کوئی تکلیف ہو یا بیمار ہو تو اپنے ہتھیار (اُتار کر) رکھ دو، اوراپنا سامانِ حفاظت لئے رہو۔ بیشک اللہ نے کافروں کے لئے ذلّت انگیز عذاب تیار کر رکھا ہے

And when you are among them and lead them in prayer, let a group of them stand [in prayer] with you and let them carry their arms. And when they have prostrated, let them be [in position] behind you and have the other group come forward which has not [yet] prayed and let them pray with you, taking precaution and carrying their arms. Those who disbelieve wish that you would neglect your weapons and your baggage so they could come down upon you in one [single] attack. But there is no blame upon you, if you are troubled by rain or are ill, for putting down your arms, but take precaution. Indeed, Allah has prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating punishment.

WarafaAAna fawqahumu attoorabimeethaqihim waqulna lahumu odkhuloo albabasujjadan waqulna lahum la taAAdoo fee assabtiwaakhathna minhum meethaqan ghaleetha

اور (جب یہود تورات کے احکام سے پھر انکاری ہوگئے تو) ہم نے ان سے (پختہ) عہد لینے کے لئے (کوہِ) طور کو ان کے اوپر اٹھا (کر معلّق کر) دیا، اور ہم نے ان سے فرمایا کہ تم (اس شہر کے) دروازے (یعنی بابِ ایلیاء) میں سجدۂ (شکر) کرتے ہوئے داخل ہونا، اور ہم نے ان سے (مزید) فرمایا کہ ہفتہ کے دن (مچھلی کے شکار کی ممانعت کے حکم) میں بھی تجاوز نہ کرنا اور ہم نے ان سے بڑا تاکیدی عہد لیا تھاo

And We raised over them the mount for [refusal of] their covenant; and We said to them, "Enter the gate bowing humbly", and We said to them, "Do not transgress on the sabbath", and We took from them a solemn covenant.

‌قَالَ مَا مَنَعَكَ اَلَّا تَسۡجُدَ اِذۡ اَمَرۡتُكَ‌ؕ قَالَ اَنَا خَيۡرٌ مِّنۡهُ‌ۚ خَلَقۡتَنِىۡ مِنۡ نَّارٍ وَّخَلَقۡتَهٗ مِنۡ طِيۡنٍ‏ 

— Transliteration

Qala ma manaAAaka allatasjuda ith amartuka qala ana khayrun minhukhalaqtanee min narin wakhalaqtahu min teen

ارشاد ہوا: (اے ابلیس!) تجھے کس (بات) نے روکا تھا کہ تو نے سجدہ نہ کیا جبکہ میں نے تجھے حکم دیا تھا، اس نے کہا: میں اس سے بہتر ہوں، تو نے مجھے آگ سے پیدا کیا ہے اور اس کو تو نے مٹی سے بنایا ہے

[Allah] said, "What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?" [Satan] said, "I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay."

— Transliteration

Qul amara rabbee bilqistiwaaqeemoo wujoohakum AAinda kulli masjidin wadAAoohumukhliseena lahu addeena kama badaakumtaAAoodoon

(so) will you return

تم لوٹو گے / تم آؤ گے

Urdu —

فرما دیجئے: میرے رب نے انصاف کا حکم دیا ہے، اور تم ہر سجدہ کے وقت و مقام پر اپنے رُخ (کعبہ کی طرف) سیدھے کر لیا کرو اور تمام تر فرمانبرداری اس کے لئے خالص کرتے ہوئے اس کی عبادت کیا کرو۔ جس طرح اس نے تمہاری (خلق و حیات کی) ابتداء کی تم اسی طرح (اس کی طرف) پلٹو گے

— English

Say, [O Muhammad], "My Lord has ordered justice and that you maintain yourselves [in worship of Him] at every place [or time] of prostration, and invoke Him, sincere to Him in religion." Just as He originated you, you will return [to life] -

O children of Adam, take your adornment at every masjid, and eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess.

— Transliteration

Wa-ith qeela lahumu oskunoo hathihialqaryata wakuloo minha haythu shi/tum waqooloo hittatunwadkhuloo albaba sujjadan naghfir lakum khatee-atikumsanazeedu almuhsineen

We will increase (reward)

عنقریب ہم زیادہ دیں گے

(of) the good-doers

احسان کرنے والوں کو

Urdu —

اور (یاد کرو) جب ان سے فرمایا گیا کہ تم اس شہر (بیت المقدس یا اریحا) میں سکونت اختیار کرو اور تم وہاں سے جس طرح چاہو کھانا اور (زبان سے) کہتے جانا کہ (ہمارے گناہ) بخش دے اور (شہر کے) دروازے میں سجدہ کرتے ہوئے داخل ہونا (تو) ہم تمہاری تمام خطائیں بخش دیں گے، عنقریب ہم نیکو کاروں کو اور زیادہ عطا فرمائیں گے

— English

And [mention, O Muhammad], when it was said to them, "Dwell in this city and eat from it wherever you will and say, 'Relieve us of our burdens,' and enter the gate bowing humbly; We will [then] forgive you your sins. We will increase the doers of good [in goodness and reward]."

بیشک جو (ملائکہ مقربین) تمہارے رب کے حضور میں ہیں وہ (کبھی بھی) اس کی عبادت سے سرکشی نہیں کرتے اور (ہمہ وقت) اس کی تسبیح کرتے رہتے ہیں اور اس کی بارگاہ میں سجدہ ریز رہتے ہیں

Indeed, those who are near your Lord are not prevented by arrogance from His worship, and they exalt Him, and to Him they prostrate.

وَالَّذِيۡنَ اتَّخَذُوۡا مَسۡجِدًا ضِرَارًا وَّكُفۡرًا وَّتَفۡرِيۡقًۢا بَيۡنَ الۡمُؤۡمِنِيۡنَ وَاِرۡصَادًا لِّمَنۡ حَارَبَ اللّٰهَ وَرَسُوۡلَهٗ مِنۡ قَبۡلُ‌ؕ وَلَيَحۡلِفُنَّ اِنۡ اَرَدۡنَاۤ اِلَّا الۡحُسۡنٰى‌ؕ وَاللّٰهُ يَشۡهَدُ اِنَّهُمۡ لَـكٰذِبُوۡنَ‏ 

— Transliteration

Wallatheena ittakhathoomasjidan diraran wakufran watafreeqan baynaalmu/mineena wa-irsadan liman haraba Allahawarasoolahu min qablu walayahlifunna in aradna illaalhusna wallahu yashhadu innahum lakathiboon

And surely they will swear

اور البتہ وہ ضرور قسمیں کھائیں گے

we wish

ارادہ کیا تھا ہم نے

except

مگر

l-ḥus'nā

بھلائی کا

wal-lahu

But Allah

اور اللہ

yashhadu

bears witness

گواہی دیتا ہے

innahum

indeed, they

بیشک وہ

lakādhibūna

(are) surely liars

البتہ جھوٹے ہیں

Urdu —

اور (منافقین میں سے وہ بھی ہیں) جنہوں نے ایک مسجد تیار کی ہے (مسلمانوں کو) نقصان پہنچانے اور کفر (کو تقویت دینے) اور اہلِ ایمان کے درمیان تفرقہ پیدا کرنے اور اس شخص کی گھات کی جگہ بنانے کی غرض سے جو اﷲ اور اس کے رسول (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) سے پہلے ہی سے جنگ کر رہا ہے، اور وہ ضرور قَسمیں کھائیں گے کہ ہم نے (اس مسجد کے بنانے سے) سوائے بھلائی کے اور کوئی ارادہ نہیں کیا، اور اﷲ گواہی دیتا ہے کہ وہ یقیناً جھوٹے ہیں

— English

And [there are] those [hypocrites] who took for themselves a mosque for causing harm and disbelief and division among the believers and as a station for whoever had warred against Allah and His Messenger before. And they will surely swear, "We intended only the best." And Allah testifies that indeed they are liars.

لَا تَقُمۡ فِيۡهِ اَبَدًا ‌ؕ لَمَسۡجِدٌ اُسِّسَ عَلَى التَّقۡوٰى مِنۡ اَوَّلِ يَوۡمٍ اَحَقُّ اَنۡ تَقُوۡمَ فِيۡهِ‌ؕ فِيۡهِ رِجَالٌ يُّحِبُّوۡنَ اَنۡ يَّتَطَهَّرُوۡا ‌ؕ وَاللّٰهُ يُحِبُّ الۡمُطَّهِّرِيۡنَ‏ 

— Transliteration

La taqum feehi abadan lamasjidunossisa AAala attaqwa min awwali yawmin ahaqquan taqooma feehi feehi rijalun yuhibboona an yatatahharoowallahu yuhibbu almuttahhireen

پاک رہنے والوں سے

Urdu —

(اے حبیب!) آپ اس (مسجد کے نام پر بنائی گئی عمارت) میں کبھی بھی کھڑے نہ ہوں۔ البتہ وہ مسجد، جس کی بنیاد پہلے ہی دن سے تقوٰی پر رکھی گئی ہے، حق دار ہے کہ آپ اس میں قیام فرما ہوں۔ اس میں ایسے لوگ ہیں جو (ظاہراً و باطناً) پاک رہنے کو پسند کرتے ہیں، اور اﷲ طہارت شعار لوگوں سے محبت فرماتا ہے

— English

Do not stand [for prayer] within it - ever. A mosque founded on righteousness from the first day is more worthy for you to stand in. Within it are men who love to purify themselves; and Allah loves those who purify themselves.

— Transliteration

Atta-iboona alAAabidoonaalhamidoona assa-ihoona arrakiAAoonaassajidoona al-amiroona bilmaAAroofiwannahoona AAani almunkari walhafithoonalihudoodi Allahi wabashshiri almu/mineen

Urdu —

(یہ مومنین جنہوں نے اللہ سے اُخروی سودا کر لیا ہے) توبہ کرنے والے، عبادت گذار، (اللہ کی) حمد و ثنا کرنے والے، دنیوی لذتوں سے کنارہ کش روزہ دار، (خشوع و خضوع سے) رکوع کرنے والے، (قربِ الٰہی کی خاطر) سجود کرنے والے، نیکی کاحکم کرنے والے اور برائی سے روکنے والے اور اللہ کی (مقرر کردہ) حدود کی حفاظت کرنے والے ہیں، اور ان اہلِ ایمان کو خوشخبری سنا دیجئے

— English

[Such believers are] the repentant, the worshippers, the praisers [of Allah], the travelers [for His cause], those who bow and prostrate [in prayer], those who enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong, and those who observe the limits [set by] Allah. And give good tidings to the believers.

[Of these stories mention] when Joseph said to his father, "O my father, indeed I have seen [in a dream] eleven stars and the sun and the moon; I saw them prostrating to me."

— Transliteration

WarafaAAa abawayhi AAala alAAarshiwakharroo lahu sujjadan waqala ya abati hathata/weelu ru/yaya min qablu qad jaAAalaha rabbee haqqanwaqad ahsana bee ith akhrajanee mina assijniwajaa bikum mina albadwi min baAAdi an nazagha ashshaytanubaynee wabayna ikhwatee inna rabbee lateefun limayashao innahu huwa alAAaleemu alhakeem

Indeed, He,

بیشک وہ

huwa

وہ

l-ʿalīmu

(is) the All-Knower

علم والا ہے،

l-ḥakīmu

the All-Wise

حکمت والا ہے

Urdu —

اور یوسف (علیہ السلام) نے اپنے والدین کو اوپر تخت پر بٹھا لیا اور وہ (سب) یوسف (علیہ السلام) کے لئے سجدہ میں گر پڑے، اور یوسف (علیہ السلام) نے کہا: اے ابا جان! یہ میرے (اس) خواب کی تعبیر ہے جو (بہت) پہلے آیا تھا (اکثر مفسرین کے نزدیک اسے چالیس سال کا عرصہ گزر گیا تھا) اور بیشک میرے رب نے اسے سچ کر دکھایا ہے، اور بیشک اس نے مجھ پر (بڑا) احسان فرمایا جب مجھے جیل سے نکالا اور آپ سب کو صحرا سے (یہاں) لے آیا اس کے بعد کہ شیطان نے میرے اور میرے بھائیوں کے درمیان فساد پیدا کر دیا تھا، اور بیشک میرا رب جس چیز کو چاہے (اپنی) تدبیر سے آسان فرما دے، بیشک وہی خوب جاننے والا بڑی حکمت والا ہے

— English

And he raised his parents upon the throne, and they bowed to him in prostration. And he said, "O my father, this is the explanation of my vision of before. My Lord has made it reality. And He was certainly good to me when He took me out of prison and brought you [here] from bedouin life after Satan had induced [estrangement] between me and my brothers. Indeed, my Lord is Subtle in what He wills. Indeed, it is He who is the Knowing, the Wise.

وَلِلّٰهِ يَسۡجُدُ مَنۡ فِىۡ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالۡاَرۡضِ طَوۡعًا وَّكَرۡهًا وَّظِلٰلُهُمۡ بِالۡغُدُوِّ وَالۡاٰصَالِ ۩‏ 

— Transliteration

Walillahi yasjudu man fee assamawatiwal-ardi tawAAan wakarhan wathilaluhumbilghuduwwi wal-asal

walillahi

And to Allah

اور اللہ ہی کے لئے

yasjudu

prostrates

سجدہ کرتے ہیں

in the mornings

wal-āṣāli

and in the afternoons

اور شام کے وقت

Urdu —

اور جو کوئی (بھی) آسمانوں اور زمین میں ہے وہ تو اﷲ ہی کے لئے سجدہ کرتا ہے (بعض) خوشی سے اور (بعض) مجبوراً اور ان کے سائے (بھی) صبح و شام (اسی کو سجدہ کرتے ہیں، تو پھر ان کافروں نے اﷲ کو چھوڑ کر بتوں کی سجدہ ریزی کیوں شروع کر لی ہے؟)

And to Allah prostrates whoever is within the heavens and the earth, willingly or by compulsion, and their shadows [as well] in the mornings and the afternoons.

پھر جب میں اس کی (ظاہری) تشکیل کو کامل طور پر درست حالت میں لا چکوں اور اس پیکرِ (بشری کے باطن) میں اپنی (نورانی) روح پھونک دوں تو تم اس کے لئے سجدہ میں گر پڑنا

And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration."

He said, "Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud."

کیا انہوں نے ان (سایہ دار) چیزوں کی طرف نہیں دیکھا جو اللہ نے پیدا فرمائی ہیں (کہ) ان کے سائے دائیں اور بائیں اَطراف سے اللہ کے لئے سجدہ کرتے ہوئے پھرتے رہتے ہیں اور وہ (درحقیقت) طاعت و عاجزی کا اظہار کرتے ہیں

Have they not considered what things Allah has created? Their shadows incline to the right and to the left, prostrating to Allah, while they are humble.

And [mention] when We said to the angles, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except for Iblees. He said, "Should I prostrate to one You created from clay?"

فرما دیجئے: تم اس پر ایمان لاؤ یا ایمان نہ لاؤ، بیشک جن لوگوں کو اس سے قبل علمِ (کتاب) عطا کیا گیا تھا جب یہ (قرآن) انہیں پڑھ کر سنایا جاتا ہے وہ ٹھوڑیوں کے بل سجدہ میں گر پڑتے ہیں

Say, "Believe in it or do not believe. Indeed, those who were given knowledge before it - when it is recited to them, they fall upon their faces in prostration,

وَكَذٰلِكَ اَعۡثَرۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ لِيَـعۡلَمُوۡۤا اَنَّ وَعۡدَ اللّٰهِ حَقٌّ وَّاَنَّ السَّاعَةَ لَا رَيۡبَ فِيۡهَا‌ۚ اِذۡ يَتَـنَازَعُوۡنَ بَيۡنَهُمۡ اَمۡرَهُمۡ‌ فَقَالُوۡا ابۡنُوۡا عَلَيۡهِمۡ بُنۡيَانًا‌ ؕ رَّبُّهُمۡ اَعۡلَمُ بِهِمۡ‌ؕ قَالَ الَّذِيۡنَ غَلَبُوۡا عَلٰٓى اَمۡرِهِمۡ لَـنَـتَّخِذَنَّ عَلَيۡهِمۡ مَّسۡجِدًا‏ 

— Transliteration

Wakathalika aAAtharnaAAalayhim liyaAAlamoo anna waAAda Allahi haqqunwaanna asaAAata la rayba feeha ithyatanazaAAoona baynahum amrahum faqaloo ibnooAAalayhim bunyanan rabbuhum aAAlamu bihim qala allatheenaghalaboo AAala amrihim lanattakhithanna AAalayhimmasjida

among themselves

about their affair

and they said

Surely we will take

البتہ ہم ضرور بنائیں گے

ایک مسجد/ سجدہ گاہ

Urdu —

اور اس طرح ہم نے ان (کے حال) پر ان لوگوں کو (جو چند صدیاں بعد کے تھے) مطلع کردیا تاکہ وہ جان لیں کہ اﷲ کا وعدہ سچا ہے اور یہ (بھی) کہ قیامت کے آنے میں کوئی شک نہیں ہے۔ جب وہ (بستی والے) آپس میں ان کے معاملہ میں جھگڑا کرنے لگے (جب اصحابِ کہف وفات پاگئے) تو انہوں نے کہا کہ ان (کے غار) پر ایک عمارت (بطور یادگار) بنا دو، ان کا رب ان (کے حال) سے خوب واقف ہے، ان (ایمان والوں) نے کہا جنہیں ان کے معاملہ پر غلبہ حاصل تھا کہ ہم ان (کے دروازہ) پر ضرور ایک مسجد بنائیں گے (تاکہ مسلمان اس میں نماز پڑھیں اور ان کی قربت سے خصوصی برکت حاصل کریں)

And similarly, We caused them to be found that they [who found them] would know that the promise of Allah is truth and that of the Hour there is no doubt. [That was] when they disputed among themselves about their affair and [then] said, "Construct over them a structure. Their Lord is most knowing about them." Said those who prevailed in the matter, "We will surely take [for ourselves] over them a masjid."

Wa-ith qulna lilmala-ikatiosjudoo li-adama fasajadoo illa ibleesa kanamina aljinni fafasaqa AAan amri rabbihi afatattakhithoonahuwathurriyyatahu awliyaa min doonee wahum lakumAAaduwwun bi/sa liththalimeena badala

اور (وہ وقت یاد کیجئے) جب ہم نے فرشتوں سے فرمایا کہ تم آدم (علیہ السلام) کو سجدۂ (تعظیم) کرو سو ان (سب) نے سجدہ کیا سوائے ابلیس کے، وہ (ابلیس) جنّات میں سے تھا تو وہ اپنے رب کی طاعت سے باہر نکل گیا، کیا تم اس کو اور اس کی اولاد کو مجھے چھوڑ کر دوست بنا رہے ہو حالانکہ وہ تمہارے دشمن ہیں، یہ ظالموں کے لئے کیا ہی برا بدل ہے (جو انہوں نے میری جگہ منتخب کیا ہے)

— English

And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except for Iblees. He was of the jinn and departed from the command of his Lord. Then will you take him and his descendants as allies other than Me while they are enemies to you? Wretched it is for the wrongdoers as an exchange.

— Transliteration

Ola-ika allatheena anAAama AllahuAAalayhim mina annabiyyeena min thurriyyati adamawamimman hamalna maAAa noohin wamin thurriyyatiibraheema wa-isra-eela wamimman hadayna wajtabaynaitha tutla AAalayhim ayatu arrahmanikharroo sujjadan wabukiyya

اور روتے ہوئے

Urdu —

یہ وہ لوگ ہیں جن پر اللہ نے انعام فرمایا ہے زمرۂ انبیاء میں سے آدم (علیہ السلام) کی اولاد سے ہیں اور ان (مومنوں) میں سے ہیں جنہیں ہم نے نوح (علیہ السلام) کے ساتھ کشتی میں (طوفان سے بچا کر) اٹھا لیا تھا، اور ابراہیم (علیہ السلام) کی اور اسرائیل (یعنی یعقوب علیہ السلام) کی اولاد سے ہیں اور ان (منتخب) لوگوں میں سے ہیں جنہیں ہم نے ہدایت بخشی اور برگزیدہ بنایا، جب ان پر (خدائے) رحمان کی آیتوں کی تلاوت کی جاتی ہے وہ سجدہ کرتے ہوئے اور (زار و قطار) روتے ہوئے گر پڑتے ہیں

— English

Those were the ones upon whom Allah bestowed favor from among the prophets of the descendants of Adam and of those We carried [in the ship] with Noah, and of the descendants of Abraham and Israel, and of those whom We guided and chose. When the verses of the Most Merciful were recited to them, they fell in prostration and weeping.

So the magicians fell down in prostration. They said, "We have believed in the Lord of Aaron and Moses."

— Transliteration

Alam tara anna Allaha yasjudu lahuman fee assamawati waman fee al-ardiwashshamsu walqamaru wannujoomu waljibaluwashshajaru waddawabbu wakatheerun minaannasi wakatheerun haqqa AAalayhi alAAathabuwaman yuhini Allahu fama lahu min mukrimin inna AllahayafAAalu ma yasha/

Urdu —

کیا تم نے نہیں دیکھا کہ اﷲ ہی کے لئے (وہ ساری مخلوق) سجدہ ریز ہے جو آسمانوں میں ہے اور جو زمین میں ہے اور سورج (بھی) اور چاند (بھی) اور ستارے (بھی) اور پہاڑ (بھی) اور درخت (بھی) اور جانور (بھی) اور بہت سے انسان (بھی)، اور بہت سے (انسان) ایسے بھی ہیں جن پر (ان کے کفر و شرک کے باعث) عذاب ثابت ہو چکا ہے، اور اﷲ جسے ذلیل کر دے تو اسے کوئی عزت دینے والا نہیں ہے۔ بیشک اﷲ جو چاہتا ہے کر دیتا ہے

— English

Do you not see that to Allah prostrates whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth and the sun, the moon, the stars, the mountains, the trees, the moving creatures and many of the people? But upon many the punishment has been justified. And he whom Allah humiliates - for him there is no bestower of honor. Indeed, Allah does what He wills.

اور رکوع کرنے والوں کے لیے

l-sujūdi

(and) those who prostrate

اور سجدہ کرنے والوں کے لیے

Urdu —

اور (وہ وقت یاد کیجئے) جب ہم نے ابراہیم (علیہ السلام) کے لئے بیت اﷲ (یعنی خانہ کعبہ کی تعمیر) کی جگہ کا تعین کر دیا (اور انہیں حکم فرمایا) کہ میرے ساتھ کسی چیز کو شریک نہ ٹھہرانا اور میرے گھر کو (تعمیر کرنے کے بعد) طواف کرنے والوں اور قیام کرنے والوں اور رکوع کر نے والوں اور سجود کرنے والوں کے لئے پاک و صاف رکھنا

— English

And [mention, O Muhammad], when We designated for Abraham the site of the House, [saying], "Do not associate anything with Me and purify My House for those who perform Tawaf and those who stand [in prayer] and those who bow and prostrate.

O you who have believed, bow and prostrate and worship your Lord and do good - that you may succeed.

Urdu —

اور جب ان سے کہا جاتا ہے کہ تم رحمان کو سجدہ کرو تو وہ (منکرینِ حق) کہتے ہیں کہ رحمان کیا (چیز) ہے؟ کیا ہم اسی کو سجدہ کرنے لگ جائیں جس کا آپ ہمیں حکم دے دیں اور اس (حکم) نے انہیں نفرت میں اور بڑھا دیاo

— English

And when it is said to them, "Prostrate to the Most Merciful," they say, "And what is the Most Merciful? Should we prostrate to that which you order us?" And it increases them in aversion.

Wajadtuha waqawmaha yasjudoonalishshamsi min dooni Allahi wazayyana lahumu ashshaytanuaAAmalahum fasaddahum AAani assabeeli fahumla yahtadoon

میں نے اسے اور اس کی قوم کو اللہ کی بجائے سورج کو سجدہ کرتے پایا ہے اور شیطان نے ان کے اَعمالِ (بد) ان کے لئے خوب خوش نما بنا دیئے ہیں اور انہیں (توحید کی) راہ سے روک دیا ہے سو وہ ہدایت نہیں پا رہے

I found her and her people prostrating to the sun instead of Allah, and Satan has made their deeds pleasing to them and averted them from [His] way, so they are not guided,

اس لئے (روکے گئے ہیں) کہ وہ اس اللہ کے حضور سجدہ ریز نہ ہوں جو آسمانوں اور زمین میں پوشیدہ (حقائق اور موجودات) کو باہر نکالتا (یعنی ظاہر کرتا) ہے اور ان (سب) چیزوں کو جانتا ہے جسے تم چھپاتے ہو اور جسے تم آشکار کرتے ہو

[And] so they do not prostrate to Allah, who brings forth what is hidden within the heavens and the earth and knows what you conceal and what you declare -

سجدہ کرتے ہوئے

and glorify

اور وہ تسبیح بیان کرتے ہیں

biḥamdi

(the) praises

حمد کے ساتھ

rabbihim

(of) their Lord

اپنے رب کی

wahum

and they

اور وہ

lā

**are not arrogant.

نہیں

yastakbirūna

are not arrogant

تکبر کرتے

Urdu —

پس ہماری آیتوں پر وہی لوگ ایمان لاتے ہیں جنہیں اُن (آیتوں) کے ذریعے نصیحت کی جاتی ہے تو وہ سجدہ کرتے ہوئے گر جاتے ہیں اور اپنے رب کی حمد کے ساتھ تسبیح کرتے ہیں اور وہ تکبّر نہیں کرتے

— English

Only those believe in Our verses who, when they are reminded by them, fall down in prostration and exalt [Allah] with praise of their Lord, and they are not arrogant.

Fa-itha sawwaytuhu wanafakhtu feehimin roohee faqaAAoo lahu sajideen

Urdu —

پھر جب میں اس (کے ظاہر) کو درست کر لوں اور اس (کے باطن) میں اپنی (نورانی) روح پھونک دوں تو تم اس (کی تعظیم) کے لئے سجدہ کرتے ہوئے گر پڑناo

So when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration."

Urdu —

(اﷲ نے) ارشاد فرمایا: اے ابلیس! تجھے کس نے اس (ہستی) کو سجدہ کرنے سے روکا ہے جسے میں نے خود اپنے دستِ (کرم) سے بنایا ہے، کیا تو نے (اس سے) تکبّر کیا یا تو (بزعمِ خویش) بلند رتبہ (بنا ہوا) تھاo

— English

[Allah] said, "O Iblees, what prevented you from prostrating to that which I created with My hands? Were you arrogant [then], or were you [already] among the haughty?"

Amman huwa qanitun anaaallayli sajidan waqa-iman yahtharu al-akhiratawayarjoo rahmata rabbihi qul hal yastawee allatheenayaAAlamoona wallatheena la yaAAlamoonainnama yatathakkaru oloo al-albab

Urdu —

بھلا (یہ مشرک بہتر ہے یا) وہ (مومن) جو رات کی گھڑیوں میں سجود اور قیام کی حالت میں عبادت کرنے والا ہے، آخرت سے ڈرتا رہتا ہے اور اپنے رب کی رحمت کی امید رکھتا ہے، فرما دیجئے: کیا جو لوگ علم رکھتے ہیں اور جو لوگ علم نہیں رکھتے (سب) برابر ہوسکتے ہیں؟ بس نصیحت تو عقل مند لوگ ہی قبول کرتے ہیں

Is one who is devoutly obedient during periods of the night, prostrating and standing [in prayer], fearing the Hereafter and hoping for the mercy of his Lord, [like one who does not]? Say, "Are those who know equal to those who do not know?" Only they will remember [who are] people of understanding.

Wamin ayatihi allaylu wannaharuwashshamsu walqamaru la tasjudoo lishshamsiwala lilqamari wasjudoo lillahi alatheekhalaqahunna in kuntum iyyahu taAAbudoon

اور رات اور دن اور سورج اور چاند اُس کی نشانیوں میں سے ہیں، نہ سورج کو سجدہ کیا کرو اور نہ ہی چاند کو، اور سجدہ صرف اﷲ کے لئے کیا کرو جس نے اِن (سب) کو پیدا فرمایا ہے اگر تم اسی کی بندگی کرتے ہو

And of His signs are the night and day and the sun and moon. Do not prostrate to the sun or to the moon, but prostate to Allah, who created them, if it should be Him that you worship.

— Transliteration

Muhammadun rasoolu Allahi wallatheenamaAAahu ashiddao AAala alkuffari ruhamaobaynahum tarahum rukkaAAan sujjadan yabtaghoona fadlanmina Allahi waridwanan seemahum feewujoohihim min athari assujoodi thalika mathaluhumfee attawrati wamathaluhum fee al-injeelikazarAAin akhraja shat-ahu faazarahu fastaghlathafastawa AAala sooqihi yuAAjibu azzurraAAaliyagheetha bihimu alkuffara waAAada Allahuallatheena amanoo waAAamiloo assalihatiminhum maghfiratan waajran AAatheema

محمد (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) اﷲ کے رسول ہیں، اور جو لوگ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کی معیت اور سنگت میں ہیں (وہ) کافروں پر بہت سخت اور زور آور ہیں آپس میں بہت نرم دل اور شفیق ہیں۔ آپ انہیں کثرت سے رکوع کرتے ہوئے، سجود کرتے ہوئے دیکھتے ہیں وہ (صرف) اﷲ کے فضل اور اس کی رضا کے طلب گار ہیں۔ اُن کی نشانی اُن کے چہروں پر سجدوں کا اثر ہے (جو بصورتِ نور نمایاں ہے)۔ ان کے یہ اوصاف تورات میں (بھی مذکور) ہیں اور ان کے (یہی) اوصاف انجیل میں (بھی مرقوم) ہیں۔ وہ (صحابہ ہمارے محبوبِ مکرّم کی) کھیتی کی طرح ہیں جس نے (سب سے پہلے) اپنی باریک سی کونپل نکالی، پھر اسے طاقتور اور مضبوط کیا، پھر وہ موٹی اور دبیز ہوگئی، پھر اپنے تنے پر سیدھی کھڑی ہوگئی (اور جب سرسبز و شاداب ہو کر لہلہائی تو) کاشتکاروں کو کیا ہی اچھی لگنے لگی (اﷲ نے اپنے حبیب صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے صحابہ رضی اللہ عنھم کو اسی طرح ایمان کے تناور درخت بنایا ہے) تاکہ اِن کے ذریعے وہ (محمد رسول اﷲ صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سے جلنے والے) کافروں کے دل جلائے، اﷲ نے ان لوگوں سے جو ایمان لائے اور نیک اعمال کرتے رہے مغفرت اور اجرِ عظیم کا وعدہ فرمایا ہےo

— English

Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; and those with him are forceful against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating [in prayer], seeking bounty from Allah and [His] pleasure. Their mark is on their faces from the trace of prostration. That is their description in the Torah. And their description in the Gospel is as a plant which produces its offshoots and strengthens them so they grow firm and stand upon their stalks, delighting the sowers - so that Allah may enrage by them the disbelievers. Allah has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds among them forgiveness and a great reward.

Yawma yukshafu AAan saqin wayudAAawnaila assujoodi fala yastateeAAoon

جس دن ساق (یعنی اَحوالِ قیامت کی ہولناک شدت) سے پردہ اٹھایا جائے گا اور وہ (نافرمان) لوگ سجدہ کے لئے بلائے جائیں گے تو وہ (سجدہ) نہ کر سکیں گےo

The Day the shin will be uncovered and they are invited to prostration but the disbelievers will not be able,

خَاشِعَةً اَبۡصَارُهُمۡ تَرۡهَقُهُمۡ ذِلَّةٌ ؕ وَّقَدۡ كَانُوۡا يُدۡعَوۡنَ اِلَى السُّجُوۡدِ وَهُمۡ سَالِمُوۡنَ‏ 

— Transliteration

KhashiAAatan absaruhumtarhaquhum thillatun waqad kanoo yudAAawna ilaassujoodi wahum salimoon

ان کی آنکھیں (ہیبت اور ندامت کے باعث) جھکی ہوئی ہوں گی (اور) ان پر ذِلت چھا رہی ہوگی، حالانکہ وہ (دنیا میں بھی) سجدہ کے لئے بلائے جاتے تھے جبکہ وہ تندرست تھے (مگر پھر بھی سجدہ کے اِنکاری تھے)o

Their eyes humbled, humiliation will cover them. And they used to be invited to prostration while they were sound.

اور جب ان پر قرآن پڑھا جاتا ہے تو (اللہ کے حضور) سجدہ ریز نہیں ہوتےo

Kalla la tutiAAhu wasjudwaqtarib

تم اطاعت کرو اس کی

wa-us'jud

But prostrate

اور سجدہ کرو

wa-iq'tarib

and draw near (to Allah)

اور قریب ہوجاؤ

Urdu —

ہرگز نہیں! آپ اس کے کئے کی پرواہ نہ کیجئے، اور (اے حبیبِ مکرّم!) آپ سر بسجود رہئے اور (ہم سے مزید) قریب ہوتے جائیےo

No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah].
