— Transliteration
Walaqad arsalna rusulan min qablikawajaAAalna lahum azwajan wathurriyyatan wamakana lirasoolin an ya/tiya bi-ayatin illabi-ithni Allahi likulli ajalin kitab

And We have already sent messengers before you and assigned to them wives and descendants. And it was not for a messenger to come with a sign except by permission of Allah. For every term is a decree.

— Transliteration
Wama kana libasharin anyukallimahu Allahu illa wahyan aw min wara-ihijabin aw yursila rasoolan fayoohiya bi-ithnihima yashao innahu AAaliyyun hakeem

اور ہر بشر کی (یہ) مجال نہیں کہ اللہ اس سے (براہِ راست) کلام کرے مگر یہ کہ وحی کے ذریعے (کسی کو شانِ نبوت سے سرفراز فرما دے) یا پردے کے پیچھے سے (بات کرے جیسے موسٰی علیہ السلام سے طورِ سینا پر کی) یا کسی فرشتے کو فرستادہ بنا کر بھیجے اور وہ اُس کے اِذن سے جو اللہ چاہے وحی کرے (الغرض عالمِ بشریت کے لئے خطابِ اِلٰہی کا واسطہ اور وسیلہ صرف نبی اور رسول ہی ہوگا)، بیشک وہ بلند مرتبہ بڑی حکمت والا ہے

And it is not for any human being that Allah should speak to him except by revelation or from behind a partition or that He sends a messenger to reveal, by His permission, what He wills. Indeed, He is Most High and Wise.

وَكَذٰلِكَ اَوۡحَيۡنَاۤ اِلَيۡكَ رُوۡحًا مِّنۡ اَمۡرِنَا ؕ مَا كُنۡتَ تَدۡرِىۡ مَا الۡكِتٰبُ وَلَا الۡاِيۡمَانُ وَلٰكِنۡ جَعَلۡنٰهُ نُوۡرًا نَّهۡدِىۡ بِهٖ مَنۡ نَّشَآءُ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَاؕ وَاِنَّكَ لَتَهۡدِىۡۤ اِلٰى صِرَاطٍ مُّسۡتَقِيۡمٍۙ
— Transliteration
Wakathalika awhaynailayka roohan min amrina ma kunta tadree maalkitabu wala al-eemanu walakinjaAAalnahu nooran nahdee bihi man nashao min AAibadinawa-innaka latahdee ila siratin mustaqeem

سو اسی طرح ہم نے آپ کی طرف اپنے حکم سے روحِ (قلوب و ارواح) کی وحی فرمائی (جو قرآن ہے)، اور آپ (وحی سے قبل اپنی ذاتی درایت و فکر سے) نہ یہ جانتے تھے کہ کتاب کیا ہے اور نہ ایمان (کے شرعی احکام کی تفصیلات کو ہی جانتے تھے جو بعد میں نازل اور مقرر ہوئیں)() مگر ہم نے اسے نور بنا دیا۔ ہم اِس (نور) کے ذریعہ اپنے بندوں میں سے جسے چاہتے ہیں ہدایت سے نوازتے ہیں، اور بیشک آپ ہی صراطِ مستقیم کی طرف ہدایت عطا فرماتے ہیں()

And thus We have revealed to you an inspiration of Our command. You did not know what is the Book or [what is] faith, but We have made it a light by which We guide whom We will of Our servants. And indeed, [O Muhammad], you guide to a straight path -

Wayaqoolu allatheena amanoolawla nuzzilat sooratun fa-itha onzilat sooratun muhkamatunwathukira feeha alqitalu raayta allatheenafee quloobihim maradun yanthuroona ilayka natharaalmaghshiyyi AAalayhi mina almawti faawla lahum

اور ایمان والے کہتے ہیں کہ (حکمِ جہاد سے متعلق) کوئی سورت کیوں نہیں اتاری جاتی؟ پھر جب کوئی واضح سورت نازل کی جاتی ہے اور اس میں (صریحاً) جہاد کا ذکر کیا جاتا ہے تو آپ ایسے لوگوں کو جن کے دلوں میں (نفاق کی) بیماری ہے ملاحظہ فرماتے ہیں کہ وہ آپ کی طرف (اس طرح) دیکھتے ہیں جیسے وہ شخص دیکھتا ہے جس پر موت کی غشی طاری ہو رہی ہو۔ سو ان کے لئے خرابی ہےo

Those who believe say, "Why has a surah not been sent down? But when a precise surah is revealed and fighting is mentioned therein, you see those in whose hearts is hypocrisy looking at you with a look of one overcome by death. And more appropriate for them [would have been]

کیا ایمان والوں کے لئے (ابھی) وہ وقت نہیں آیا کہ اُن کے دل اللہ کی یاد کے لئے رِقّت کے ساتھ جھک جائیں اور اس حق کے لئے (بھی) جو نازل ہوا ہے اور اُن لوگوں کی طرح نہ ہو جائیں جنہیں اس سے پہلے کتاب دی گئی تھی پھر ان پر مدّت دراز گزر گئی تو اُن کے دل سخت ہوگئے، اور ان میں بہت سے لوگ نافرمان ہیںo

Has the time not come for those who have believed that their hearts should become humbly submissive at the remembrance of Allah and what has come down of the truth? And let them not be like those who were given the Scripture before, and a long period passed over them, so their hearts hardened; and many of them are defiantly disobedient.

— Transliteration
Laqad arsalna rusulana bilbayyinatiwaanzalna maAAahumu alkitaba walmeezanaliyaqooma annasu bilqisti waanzalnaalhadeeda feehi ba/sun shadeedun wamanafiAAu linnasiwaliyaAAlama Allahu man yansuruhu warusulahu bilghaybiinna Allaha qawiyyun AAazeez

بیشک ہم نے اپنے رسولوں کو واضح نشانیوں کے ساتھ بھیجا اور ہم نے اُن کے ساتھ کتاب اور میزانِ عدل نازل فرمائی تاکہ لوگ انصاف پر قائم ہو سکیں، اور ہم نے (معدنیات میں سے) لوہا مہیّا کیا اس میں (آلاتِ حرب و دفاع کے لئے) سخت قوّت اور لوگوں کے لئے (صنعت سازی کے کئی دیگر) فوائد ہیں اور (یہ اس لئے کیا) تاکہ اللہ ظاہر کر دے کہ کون اُس کی اور اُس کے رسولوں کی (یعنی دینِ اسلام کی) بِن دیکھے مدد کرتا ہے، بیشک اللہ (خود ہی) بڑی قوت والا بڑے غلبہ والا ہےo

We have already sent Our messengers with clear evidences and sent down with them the Scripture and the balance that the people may maintain [their affairs] in justice. And We sent down iron, wherein is great military might and benefits for the people, and so that Allah may make evident those who support Him and His messengers unseen. Indeed, Allah is Powerful and Exalted in Might.

وَمَا جَعَلۡنَاۤ اَصۡحٰبَ النَّارِ اِلَّا مَلٰٓٮِٕكَةً وَّمَا جَعَلۡنَا عِدَّتَهُمۡ اِلَّا فِتۡنَةً لِّلَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡاۙ لِيَسۡتَيۡقِنَ الَّذِيۡنَ اُوۡتُوۡا الۡكِتٰبَ وَيَزۡدَادَ الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡۤا اِيۡمَانًا وَّلَا يَرۡتَابَ الَّذِيۡنَ اُوۡتُوۡا الۡكِتٰبَ وَالۡمُؤۡمِنُوۡنَۙ وَلِيَقُوۡلَ الَّذِيۡنَ فِىۡ قُلُوۡبِهِمۡ مَّرَضٌ وَّالۡكٰفِرُوۡنَ مَاذَاۤ اَرَادَ اللّٰهُ بِهٰذَا مَثَلًا ؕ كَذٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ اللّٰهُ مَنۡ يَّشَآءُ وَيَهۡدِىۡ مَنۡ يَّشَآءُ ؕ وَمَا يَعۡلَمُ جُنُوۡدَ رَبِّكَ اِلَّا هُوَ ؕ وَمَا هِىَ اِلَّا ذِكۡرٰى لِلۡبَشَرِ
— Transliteration
Wama jaAAalna as-habaannari illa mala-ikatan wamajaAAalna AAiddatahum illa fitnatan lillatheenakafaroo liyastayqina allatheena ootoo alkitabawayazdada allatheena amanoo eemananwala yartaba allatheena ootoo alkitabawalmu/minoona waliyaqoola allatheena feequloobihim maradun walkafiroona mathaarada Allahu bihatha mathalan kathalikayudillu Allahu man yashao wayahdee man yashaowama yaAAlamu junooda rabbika illa huwa wamahiya illa thikra lilbashar

اور ہم نے دوزخ کے داروغے صرف فرشتے ہی مقرر کئے ہیں اور ہم نے ان کی گنتی کافروں کے لئے محض آزمائش کے طور پر مقرر کی ہے تاکہ اہلِ کتاب یقین کر لیں (کہ قرآن اور نبوتِ محمدی صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم حق ہے کیونکہ ان کی کتب میں بھی یہی تعداد بیان کی گئی تھی) اور اہلِ ایمان کا ایمان (اس تصدیق سے) مزید بڑھ جائے، اور اہلِ کتاب اور مومنین (اس کی حقانیت میں) شک نہ کر سکیں، اور تاکہ وہ لوگ جن کے دلوں میں (نفاق کی) بیماری ہے اور کفار یہ کہیں کہ اس (تعداد کی) مثال سے اللہ کی مراد کیا ہے؟ اسی طرح اللہ (ایک ہی بات سے) جسے چاہتا ہے گمراہ ٹھہراتا ہے اور جسے چاہتا ہے ہدایت فرماتا ہے، اور آپ کے رب کے لشکروں کو اس کے سوا کوئی نہیں جانتا، اور یہ (دوزخ کا بیان) اِنسان کی نصیحت کے لئے ہی ہےo

And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity.

بَلۡ يُرِيۡدُ كُلُّ امۡرِىٴٍ مِّنۡهُمۡ اَنۡ يُّؤۡتٰى صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةًۙ
— Transliteration
Bal yureedu kullu imri-in minhum an yu/tasuhufan munashshara

بلکہ ان میں سے ہر ایک شخص یہ چاہتا ہے کہ اُسے (براہِ راست) کھلے ہوئے (آسمانی) صحیفے دے دئیے جائیںo

Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about.

Lam yakuni allatheena kafaroo min ahlialkitabi walmushrikeena munfakkeena hattata/tiyahumu albayyina

Those who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists were not to be parted [from misbelief] until there came to them clear evidence -

Wama tafarraqa allatheena ootooalkitaba illa min baAAdi ma jaat-humualbayyina

(ان) اہل کتاب میں (نبی آخر الزماں صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی نبوت و رسالت پر ایمان لانے اور آپ کی شانِ اقدس کو پہچاننے کے بارے میں پہلے) کوئی پھوٹ نہ پڑی تھی مگر اس کے بعد کہ جب (بعثتِ محمدی صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی) روشن دلیل ان کے پاس آگئی (تو وہ باہم بٹ گئے کوئی ان پر ایمان لے آیا اور کوئی حسد کے باعث منکر و کافر ہوگیا)o

Nor did those who were given the Scripture become divided until after there had come to them clear evidence.

اِنَّ الَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡا مِنۡ اَهۡلِ الۡكِتٰبِ وَالۡمُشۡرِكِيۡنَ فِىۡ نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ خٰلِدِيۡنَ فِيۡهَاؕ اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ هُمۡ شَرُّ الۡبَرِيَّةِؕ
— Transliteration
Inna allatheena kafaroo min ahli alkitabiwalmushrikeena fee nari jahannama khalideenafeeha ola-ika hum sharru albariyya

بیشک جو لوگ اہلِ کتاب میں سے کافر ہوگئے اور مشرکین (سب) دوزخ کی آگ میں (پڑے) ہوں گے وہ ہمیشہ اسی میں رہنے والے ہیں، یہی لوگ بد ترین مخلوق ہیںo

Indeed, they who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, abiding eternally therein. Those are the worst of creatures.
