— Transliteration
Waminhum ommiyyoona la yaAAlamoonaalkitaba illa amaniyya wa-in hum illayathunnoon

اور ان (یہود) میں سے (بعض) ان پڑھ (بھی) ہیں جنہیں (سوائے سنی سنائی جھوٹی امیدوں کے) کتاب (کے معنی و مفہوم) کا کوئی علم ہی نہیں وہ (کتاب کو) صرف زبانی پڑھنا جانتے ہیں یہ لوگ محض وہم و گمان میں پڑے رہتے ہیں

And among them are unlettered ones who do not know the Scripture except in wishful thinking, but they are only assuming.

فَاِنۡ حَآجُّوۡكَ فَقُلۡ اَسۡلَمۡتُ وَجۡهِىَ لِلّٰهِ وَمَنِ اتَّبَعَنِ‌ؕ وَقُل لِّلَّذِيۡنَ اُوۡتُوۡا الۡكِتٰبَ وَالۡاُمِّيّٖنَ ءَاَسۡلَمۡتُمۡ‌ؕ فَاِنۡ اَسۡلَمُوۡا فَقَدِ اهۡتَدَوْا‌ۚ وَاِنۡ تَوَلَّوۡا فَاِنَّمَا عَلَيۡكَ الۡبَلٰغُ‌ ؕ وَاللّٰهُ بَصِيۡرٌۢ بِالۡعِبَادِ‏ 
— Transliteration
Fa-in hajjooka faqul aslamtu wajhiyalillahi wamani ittabaAAani waqul lillatheena ootooalkitaba walommiyyeena aaslamtum fa-inaslamoo faqadi ihtadaw wa-in tawallaw fa-innama AAalaykaalbalaghu wallahu baseerun bilAAibad

پھر اگر
ḥājjūka
they argue with you
وہ جھگڑا کریں آپ سے
faqul
then say
تو کہہ دیجیے

I have submitted
میں نے سپرد کیا
wajhiya

اپنا چہرہ۔ اپنی ذات
lillahi
to Allah
اللہ کے لیے
wamani
and (those) who
اور جو کوئی
ittabaʿani
follow me
اپنا اتباع کرے
waqul
And say
اور کہہ دیجیے
lilladhīna
to those who
ان لوگوں کے لیے
ūtū
were given
جو دیے گئے
l-kitāba
the Book
کتاب
wal-umiyīna
and the unlettered people
اور ان پڑھ لوگوں کو۔ امی لوگوں کو
a-aslamtum
Have you submitted yourselves
اسلام لائے تم۔ سپرد کردیا تم نے
fa-in
Then if
پھر اگر
aslamū
they submit
وہ اسلام لے آئیں۔ سپرد کردیں
faqadi
then surely
تو تحقیق
ih'tadaw
they are guided
وہ ہدایت پاگئے
wa-in
But if
اوراگر
tawallaw
they turn back
وہ منہ موڑ جائیں
fa-innamā
then only
تو بیشک
ʿalayka
on you
تجھ پر ہے
l-balāghu
(is) to [the] convey
پہنچادینا
wal-lahu
And Allah
اور اللہ
baṣīrun
(is) All-Seer
دیکھنے والا ہے
bil-ʿibādi
of [His] slaves
بندوں کو
Urdu —
(اے حبیب!) اگر پھر بھی آپ سے جھگڑا کریں تو فرما دیں کہ میں نے اور جس نے (بھی) میری پیروی کی اپنا روئے نیاز اﷲ کے حضور جھکا دیا ہے، اور آپ اہلِ کتاب اور اَن پڑھ لوگوں سے فرما دیں: کیا تم بھی اﷲ کے حضور جھکتے ہو (یعنی اسلام قبول کرتے ہو)؟ پھر اگر وہ فرمانبرداری اختیار کر لیں تو وہ حقیقتاً ہدایت پا گئے، اور اگر منہ پھیر لیں تو آپ کے ذمہ فقط حکم پہنچا دینا ہی ہے، اور اﷲ بندوں کو خوب دیکھنے والا ہےo
— English
So if they argue with you, say, "I have submitted myself to Allah [in Islam], and [so have] those who follow me." And say to those who were given the Scripture and [to] the unlearned, "Have you submitted yourselves?" And if they submit [in Islam], they are rightly guided; but if they turn away - then upon you is only the [duty of] notification. And Allah is Seeing of [His] servants.

وَمِنۡ اَهۡلِ الۡكِتٰبِ مَنۡ اِنۡ تَاۡمَنۡهُ بِقِنۡطَارٍ يُّؤَدِّهٖۤ اِلَيۡكَ‌ۚ وَمِنۡهُمۡ مَّنۡ اِنۡ تَاۡمَنۡهُ بِدِيۡنَارٍ لَّا يُؤَدِّهٖۤ اِلَيۡكَ اِلَّا مَا دُمۡتَ عَلَيۡهِ قَآٮِٕمًا‌ؕ ذٰلِكَ بِاَنَّهُمۡ قَالُوۡا لَيۡسَ عَلَيۡنَا فِىۡ الۡاُمِّيّٖنَ سَبِيۡلٌۚ وَيَقُوۡلُوۡنَ عَلَى اللّٰهِ الۡكَذِبَ وَهُمۡ يَعۡلَمُوۡنَ‏ 
— Transliteration
Wamin ahli alkitabi man in ta/manhubiqintarin yu-addihi ilayka waminhum man in ta/manhubideenarin la yu-addihi ilayka illa madumta AAalayhi qa-iman thalika bi-annahum qaloolaysa AAalayna fee al-ommiyyeena sabeelun wayaqooloonaAAala Allahi alkathiba wahum yaAAlamoon

ان میں سے کچھ ہیں

tamanhu
you entrust him
تو امانت دے اس کو

with a single coin
ایک دینار

نہیں
yu-addihi
he will return it
وہ ادا کرے گا
ilayka
to you
اس کو طرف تیرے
illā
except
مگر
mā
**you keep constantly
dum'ta
you keep constantly
جب تک تو رہے
ʿalayhi
over him
اس پر

standing
قائم۔ ٹھہرا۔ کھڑا ہوا

That
یہ
bi-annahum
(is) because they
بوجہ اس کے بیشک
qālū
said
وہ کہتے ہیں
laysa
Not
نہیں ہے
ʿalaynā
on us
ہم پر
fī
**concerning the unlettered people
بارے میں
l-umiyīna
the unlettered people
امیوں کے
sabīlun
any [way] (accountability)
کوئی رستہ
wayaqūlūna
And they say
وہ کہتے ہیں
ʿalā
about
پر
l-lahi
Allah
اللہ
l-kadhiba
the lie
جھوٹ
wahum
while they
اور وہ
yaʿlamūna
know
جانتے ہیں
Urdu —
اور اہلِ کتاب میں ایسے بھی ہیں کہ اگر آپ اس کے پاس مال کا ڈھیر امانت رکھ دیں تو وہ آپ کو لوٹا دے گا اور انہی میں ایسے بھی ہیں کہ اگر اس کے پاس ایک دینار امانت رکھ دیں تو آپ کو وہ بھی نہیں لوٹائے گا سوائے اس کے کہ آپ اس کے سر پر کھڑے رہیں، یہ اس لئے کہ وہ کہتے ہیں کہ اَن پڑھوں کے معاملہ میں ہم پر کوئی مؤاخذہ نہیں، اور اﷲ پر جھوٹ باندھتے ہیں اور انہیں خود (بھی) معلوم ہےo

And among the People of the Scripture is he who, if you entrust him with a great amount [of wealth], he will return it to you. And among them is he who, if you entrust him with a [single] silver coin, he will not return it to you unless you are constantly standing over him [demanding it]. That is because they say, "There is no blame upon us concerning the unlearned." And they speak untruth about Allah while they know [it].
