وَاِذۡ قُلۡتُمۡ يٰمُوۡسٰى لَنۡ نَّصۡبِرَ عَلٰى طَعَامٍ وَّاحِدٍ فَادۡعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ يُخۡرِجۡ لَنَا مِمَّا تُنۡۢبِتُ الۡاَرۡضُ مِنۡۢ بَقۡلِهَا وَقِثَّـآٮِٕهَا وَفُوۡمِهَا وَعَدَسِهَا وَبَصَلِهَا‌ؕ قَالَ اَتَسۡتَبۡدِلُوۡنَ الَّذِىۡ هُوَ اَدۡنٰى بِالَّذِىۡ هُوَ خَيۡرٌ‌ؕ اِهۡبِطُوۡا مِصۡرًا فَاِنَّ لَـکُمۡ مَّا سَاَلۡتُمۡ‌ؕ وَضُرِبَتۡ عَلَيۡهِمُ الذِّلَّةُ وَالۡمَسۡکَنَةُ وَبَآءُوۡ بِغَضَبٍ مِّنَ اللّٰهِ‌ؕ ذٰلِكَ بِاَنَّهُمۡ كَانُوۡا يَكۡفُرُوۡنَ بِاٰيٰتِ اللّٰهِ وَيَقۡتُلُوۡنَ النَّبِيّٖنَ بِغَيۡرِ الۡحَـقِّ‌ؕ ذٰلِكَ بِمَا عَصَوا وَّڪَانُوۡا يَعۡتَدُوۡنَ‏ 
— Transliteration
Wa-ith qultum ya moosalan nasbira AAala taAAamin wahidinfadAAu lana rabbaka yukhrij lana mimmatunbitu al-ardu min baqliha waqiththa-ihawafoomiha waAAadasiha wabasaliha qalaatastabdiloona allathee huwa adna billatheehuwa khayrun ihbitoo misran fa-inna lakum masaaltum waduribat AAalayhimu aththillatu walmaskanatuwabaoo bighadabin mina Allahi thalikabi-annahum kanoo yakfuroona bi-ayati Allahiwayaqtuloona annabiyyeena bighayri alhaqqi thalikabima AAasaw wakanoo yaAAtadoon

اے موسیٰ

Never (will)
ہرگز نہیں

we endure
ہم صبر کریں گے

کھانے کے

(of) one (kind)
ایک
fa-ud'ʿu
so pray
پس تم دعا کرو
lanā
for us
ہمارے لئے
rabbaka
(to) your Lord
اپنے رب سے
yukh'rij
to bring forth
وہ نکالے
lanā
for us
ہمارے لئے
mimmā
out of what
اس میں سے جو
tunbitu
grows
اگاتی ہے
l-arḍu
the earth
زمین (یعنی)
min
of
سے
baqlihā
its herbs
سبزی اس کی سے
waqithāihā
[and] its cucumbers
اور ککڑی اس کی سے
wafūmihā
[and] its garlic
لہسن اس کے سے
waʿadasihā

مسور اس کی سے
wabaṣalihā
and its onions
پیاز اس کی سے
qāla
He said
کہا
atastabdilūna
Would you exchange
تم بدلنا چاہتے ہو
alladhī
that which
اسے جو
huwa
[it]
وہ
adnā
(is) inferior
کم تر ہے
bi-alladhī
for that which
بدلے اس کے جو
huwa
[it]
وہ
khayrun
(is) better
بہتر ہے
ih'biṭū
down
اتر جاؤ (بلند مقام سے)
miṣ'ran
(to) a city
کسی شہر میں
fa-inna
so indeed
تو بیشک
lakum
for you
تمہارے لئے ہے
mā
(is) what
جو
sa-altum
you have asked (for)
سوال کیا تم نے / مانگا تم نے
waḍuribat
And were struck
اور ماری گئی / مسلط کی گئی
ʿalayhimu
on them
اوپر ان کے
l-dhilatu
the humiliation
ذلت
wal-maskanatu
and the misery
اور مسکنت
wabāū
and they drew on themselves
اور وہ لوٹے
bighaḍabin
wrath
ساتھ غضب کے
mina
of
طرف سے
l-lahi
Allah
اللہ
dhālika
That (was)
یہ
bi-annahum
because they
بوجہ اسکے کہ بیشک وہ
kānū
used to
تھے وہ
yakfurūna
disbelieve
وہ کفر کرتےرہتے تھے
biāyāti
in (the) Signs
ساتھ آیات کے
l-lahi
(of) Allah
اللہ
wayaqtulūna
and kill
اور قتل کر ڈالتے تھے
l-nabiyīna
the Prophets
نبیوں کو
bighayri
without (any)
بغیر
l-ḥaqi
[the] right
حق کے
dhālika
That
یہ
bimā
(was) because
بوجہ اس کے
ʿaṣaw
they disobeyed
وہ نافرمانی کرتے تھے
wakānū
and they were
اور تھے وہ
yaʿtadūna
transgressing
حد سےنکل جاتے
Urdu —
اور جب تم نے کہا: اے موسیٰ! ہم فقط ایک کھانے (یعنی منّ و سلویٰ) پر ہرگز صبر نہیں کر سکتے تو آپ اپنے رب سے (ہمارے حق میں) دعا کیجئے کہ وہ ہمارے لئے زمین سے اگنے والی چیزوں میں سے ساگ اور ککڑی اور گیہوں اور مسور اور پیاز پیدا کر دے، (موسیٰ علیہ السلام نے اپنی قوم سے) فرمایا: کیا تم اس چیز کو جو ادنیٰ ہے بہتر چیز کے بدلے مانگتے ہو؟ (اگر تمہاری یہی خواہش ہے تو) کسی بھی شہر میں جا اترو یقیناً (وہاں) تمہارے لئے وہ کچھ (میسر) ہو گا جو تم مانگتے ہو، اور ان پر ذلّت اور محتاجی مسلط کر دی گئی، اور وہ اللہ کے غضب میں لوٹ گئے، یہ اس وجہ سے (ہوا) کہ وہ اللہ کی آیتوں کا انکار کیا کرتے اور انبیاء کو ناحق قتل کرتے تھے، اور یہ اس وجہ سے بھی ہوا کہ وہ نافرمانی کیا کرتے اور (ہمیشہ) حد سے بڑھ جاتے تھے
— English
And [recall] when you said, "O Moses, we can never endure one [kind of] food. So call upon your Lord to bring forth for us from the earth its green herbs and its cucumbers and its garlic and its lentils and its onions." [Moses] said, "Would you exchange what is better for what is less? Go into [any] settlement and indeed, you will have what you have asked." And they were covered with humiliation and poverty and returned with anger from Allah [upon them]. That was because they [repeatedly] disbelieved in the signs of Allah and killed the prophets without right. That was because they disobeyed and were [habitually] transgressing.
